Have you ever felt as though you were going to burst with excitement? I felt just like that, when finally on my 11th birthday Dad said he'd bring me to a horse auction to look at some horses for buying. My name is Destiny Grace and I have never had a horse, but I absolutely love horses!

We just moved here in Wyoming from New, York. We moved from the city life to the country life, so Dad said when I was eleven and we moved, I could get a horse! The car suddenly jolted I was almost thrown forward with my thoughts. “My jivies, this country road feels like were popcorn in a pan!” Dad said laughing his jolly laugh. “I think the road told us that Jack!” Mom said laughing too.

Mom was a country girl, and Dad was a city boy, he never wanted me to have a horse, but Mom talked him into it after eleven years! Dad is REALLY funny, and Jolly! Finally after it seemed like forever we reached the auction. “Why don’t we look at some of the horses before the auction starts?” Dad said looking at his watch.

As I slowly passed the thousands (Ok, not thousands!) of horse panels and horses, I sighed. Then three horses caught my attention. They were clearly Arabian’s, but hard to believe that they were even horses. They huddled together like it was freezing; they were skinny, with their ribs showing, and their bones poking out of their skin, their hoofs badly needed trimming. There was a bay, a black, and a grey.

Their coats were dull, and clearly looked like they had been on rough pasture, with little grass, and with barb wire fences. The bay looked at me and nickered slowly, its eye’s looking longingly at me. Then Dad approached me as I slowly walked past their pen. “Hurry, it’s about to start!”

We walked into to a huge building with at least hundred long lines of cement steps used as seats, and then at the front was half of an arena with a stand for the auctioneers to sit and call out the prices. We sat down as one by one; the horses were called out and sold. I looked through window, it was getting dark. I sighed sadly. It wasn't in my hands if we got a horse or not.

As the end slowly passed, horses came in and out… But none were to my taste or Dad’s “Look at those three” my father said with suspicious enthusiasm. “I saw those in one of the pens, I actually am attracted to them!” My Mother shook her head “Those? Those are skinny, and have no shine and...” Mom voice was interrupted by a man’s voice “look at those bag of bones” a man laughed mockingly “These are pure bred Arabian’s, with a royal bloodline” said the auctioneer.

Then I heard a chorus of laughter “And they will stay, together forever!” said the auctioneer loudly.

“Dad, what about those three horses?” I asked intently watching their behavior “You sure?” he asked “Yes!” Dad put his hand up and yelled “100”. “Jack!” Mom whispered in a screeching tone “Are you sure about those?” She asked with a concerned tone “Anyone else wants to bid on these, horses?” the auctioneer asked. I heard only a few mumbles. “1oo, going once…Twice… and SOLD to number 30!”

I jumped up with Dad and we ran to were the horses were located. I put the halters on the horses; they fidgeted when the owner approached them. “ They are broken and tamed already.” The man grumbled. Dad gave the man the check. And we walked towards the trailer

When we got home Dad went to the tack shop to buy some tack and horse accessories. I gently stroked and brushed the horses as they ate there hay hungrily. “Well Grace, what shall we call them?” asked my Mom. “Why don’t we figure that one out in about a week, so I’ll know their personalities?” I asked. “That’s a great idea”.

After two weeks, Mom and I had washed each horse and conditioned it, shined it, and every day we groomed them, fed them, gave them attention, and trained them. Every day they looked healthier and healthier, till they almost looked normal.

After a week I came up with three names, for the bay horse , which is a female I called, Atiff, in Arab that means compassionate, affectionate, and loving, for the grey, I named her Jameela, which means,Beautiful, graceful, and lovely, The black horse, which is a male I named Asmin, which means, Protector, and defender.

Asmin totally follows his name; I named him that from one incident that happened. A dog was attempting to run after Jameela and Atiff, when Asmin saw that, he ran with all his might after the dog, and after that I never saw that dog again!

After a week or two, after they got settled in, we took them to the vet for dewormer, etc, and also we went to the Ferrier to trim each of their hoofs. Every day that summer I took care and tamed, and trained them. By the time summer was ending I was able to ride Atiff and Jameela bareback! Asmin was still in training.

On the last day of summer, I had happened to be gone at school, and Mom was in the house baking cookies, when she looked out the window and saw that only Jameela and Asmin. She thought “That horse is as curious as a kitten; she’s just probably hiding or something.” But a loud shrill of a horse broke into her thought’s. She ran as fast as she could towards the sound. She followed the shrills of the horse all the way down by our creek.

Gladly Mom had her phone, and called the vet and me. Though the vet was late to help with the arrival, the baby was delivered, and was very healthy. The young filly was light tan, with a white tail and mane with golden strands of hair in her mane and tail. The young filly tried to get up, but it wobbled and fell over. Atiff moved closer to help the young filly with support.

“Why don’t we keep this little one a secret?” My mother said smiling “I hope I can, why don’t we bake a cake to pass the time, of anxiety to tell the new secret!” I asked enthusiastically “That’s a great idea, and remember we now have find a suitable name for, well, is it a he or she?!” My mother asked the vet “A she” “Isn’t she likes a light Palomino or tan, I have heard that babies “change” colors when they get older?” I asked wonderingly “its palomino, but most likely it will turn into a darker color. She is a fairly attractive young filly.” The vet answered solemnly

Mom and I talked about the new foal and made the cake also, it seemed like years before Dad got home. When he did he said it was time to feed. Mom and I tried to hide back the huge smiles that might peek out. When we got in the barn, the little filly nickered, and poked his head over the stall door. “Huh?” Dad looked confused. I could hold it no longer “Atiff gave birth to a filly!”I said smiling “Oh, not another!” Dad answered laughing “Before a year we can start a business for selling foals!”

We all laughed “Have we named her yet?”He asked peering into the stall “No, not yet, but how about Buhayasah for she walks with pride or Buhtha because she is happy and delighted when she see’s others?” I said laughing as the little filly pranced, with its tail straight up in the air. Then it squealed as Asmin walked in the barn. “Oops forgot to shut the door” My Mom said hurrying to lead Asmin out of the barn.

The next morning I crawled out of bed, today was the day to take the horses out to a bigger pasture, and go to Wayne ranch, that we go every year, around Fall to round up about a three hundred horses and also take them to pasture. That’s one day, we all look forward too, unless you stayed up till 1 watching a new filly!

“Honey, I have three pancakes left, hurry out of bed!” My Mom called out. I looked at the clock, 5:30 it read in large red letters. Once I was ready I ran down the stairs.

“Mom, will we be bringing Asmin, and Jameela?” I asked.

“Well, I’ll be riding Penny’s horse, Cedar. I guess if your Dad thinks’ it’s all right, it’s all right.” Mom said yawning.

I ran outside to ask Dad, but he already had Asmin and Jameela tied up, and was grooming them. “Why don’t you groom Jameela, or Asim?” Dad asked smiling as Jameela nudged him “Do you want to ride Jameela or Asmin?” he asked.

“I think Asmin, since he still is in training.” I answered picking up a dandy brush from my grooming kit.

“Good, I don’t know if I am professional enough to handle that big boy.” Dad said smiling.

“Besides, I am very fond of Jameela, I must admit!” “I can see that!” I answered laughing as I saw that Jameela nuzzling Dad.

“We have about an hour, “Is your Mom up yet?” Dad asked wonderingly.

“Yes, she finishing cleaning up the kitchen.” I answered. “That’s good, because, after I load them up, I have to change my cloths and we’ll hit the road!” Dad said giving putting the grooming cloth in the brush kit.

“Mom, are you ready to go?” I asked running through the house trying to find my new pair of boots.

“Are you trying to find your boots, if you are there in the riding boot closet, and yes I am ready, I only have to take these brownies, bean’s, and chicken out of the oven” She answered quickly rushing throughout the house picking up things here and there.

Before I could answer she was gone. My Mom is awesome! It’s almost like she has ten arms! She can put on beans, bread crumb chicken, and brownies, and they come out perfectibility and they taste great, and most of all they take only a few minutes. She always keep’s the house clean, though we help a lot, Mom does a lot more in the house than Dad and I put together!

I jumped off the couch when Dad came rushing in the house. “What’s wrong” I asked “You need to load Asmin, he’s throwing a fit when I try.” Dad said rushing me outside. I ran outside and walked up to Asmin. I read that when you take to hands and rub there forehead in circular motion it lowers their stress level.

I did just that, and it did seem that Asmin called down a lot. I pulled his lead, slightly and he followed me into the trailer. “That’s funny, he was throwing, a fit, when I tried, he even reared.” Dad said astonished “He just trust’s me” I answered stroking Asmin.

“I think I’ll try the Arab way for horses to trust their owner.” I added. Mom walked out of the house with the food in her hands. “Ok, I’m ready”. “Ok, then if we are all ready we can hit the road!” Dad answered smiling and looking at his watch. “We better get going, or we’ll be late!”

We all jumped in the car and Dad started driving. To the Wayne’s ranch it took about 5 and half hours, so Mom brought suitcases for each of us just in case we stayed a day or two. I felt like a little child, so excited and about to ask as my parent’s drove out of the driveway, “Mom, how many more minuets’ are there till we get there?” of course I didn’t ask that!

After 5 ½ hours we finally reached Wayne’s Ranch. I jumped out of the car and ran to take out the horses from the trailer. “It's freezing!” I exclaimed shivering

“Hey Jack” Said a dark red head with rusty eyebrows walked up to us, that was Mr. Wayne. Dad turned and faced Mr. Wayne “Hey, Tom, what’s up?” My Dad asked “Nothing much, but the usual, but we are sure glad to have you here today!!!” Mr. Wayne exclaimed excitedly.

“Mr. Wayne, I was wondering where Mrs. Wayne is?” Mom asked “Oh, here she comes right now, and she brought Alice.” Mr. Wayne said motioning towards a Brunette, which was probably his wife, and then a younger girl with Red hair, walked also towards us. “Meet my family; this is my wife, Penny, and my daughter Alice.”

He said motioning to Mrs. Wayne. “It’s so nice to meet you.” Mom and I exclaimed at the same time. Alice smiled shyly and said “Nice to meet you too! Why don’t you come with me after you unload the horses, and see my horse, then we can ride out together, since you are about an hour and a half early!” she exclaimed shyly.

The reason we had never met the Mother and daughter was because they usually were out of town, with the Mother’s parents. Dad looked at his watch and laughing he exclaimed “I forgot about, daylight savings time! We were rushing out hoping we weren’t late, but were an hour early!” Everyone laughed. Me and Alice giggled as we watched Mrs. Wayne and my Mom bustle off talking..

I finished unloading the horses, and hurried to tack them up. Once I was finished I ran over to Alice. “Ok, I am ready.” I exclaimed. “What breed is your horse?” I asked when we reached the barn “Anglo, What is yours? It looks like Arabian.” She told me. Anglo is part bred thoroughbred and Arabian.

“Mine, is pure bred Arabian.” I answered “Do you want to ride?” She asked “Sure!” I answered as I mounted “I haven’t loped Asmin yet, so I think I’ll take it slow.” I said trotting after Alice.

After a while of getting to know her, I suggested it was time to get back. “Your back, I have bad news,” My father said mournfully “You won’t be able to go on the round-up but you can stay here.” He said nodding his head as a friend passed by “How come?” I asked dismally “Well, this year it’s just the adults.” He replied “I guess I’ll get settled in” I replied.

It was a funny feeling; I was half glad and half sad. I wanted to stay with the Wayne’s. Dad interrupted my thought “And Mr. Wayne and Mrs. Wayne won’t be here, only their other daughter, and a ranch helper.” He announced.

“Let’s get you settled in, and the horses.” Alice said breaking the silence. As we walked through the backyard I looked at it in awe. It was a very nice ranch, log cabin, with huge windows, with red lining, the huge logs, with an oak color, gave it a nice ranchy touch.

I walked up the sand walkway, the flowers, bushes, and large oak trees surrounding me. I walked up the red stone steps, into the large oak deck, that surrounded me,  and listened to the flow of the little water fall on the side of the house.

“This is the backyard; Mom is an “outside” person.” She said giggling. I opened the door, and the inside was beautiful! There right in front was a beautiful ranch kitchen and in front of the kitchen bar was a huge living room with huge windows around the whole room. A huge fireplace looked very inviting also, with a TV above it.

Then behind the living room was a winding stairs with a door underneath. “Faith?” Alice asked giggling “oh, sorry,” I exclaimed laughing “I haven’t seen a house like this in a while!” “The guests rooms are up those stairs” Alice said motioning to the stairs, and escorting me to my room, up the stairs that seemed to never end. She opened the door where right in front was a huge deck for me to look out over looking the backyard (Or the rain forest).

There were two queen sized beds with two cow-hide blankets draped over them, and comforters with horse galloping through green grass On the left side were three leather couches and a bearskin hide on the floor and a fireplace also, as I had seen in the living room. “This is one of the guestrooms...” Alice said giggling at my amazement
“You want to see my room?” She asked “Sure!” I replied. She walked down the stairs to the door which I was most curious about. Her room was NOT ranchy, but all pink Zebra, the beds. Rugs, even the walls. This made my eyes swirl. Two beds sat beside each other with a window out looking the pastures of the horses.

“This is beautiful” I exclaimed. Alice blushed shyly. She showed me the bathroom, I started to burst out laughter.

“Sorry!” I exclaimed. Alice looked very confused. The floor of the bathroom was zebra, the mirror rim and much of the bathroom! “I just have never seen a room like this!” I said giggling “I thought so “She replied giggling. Then she motioning to two little zebra models

“Pull those upright,” She instructed “Then I'll move my bed” After finishing her instruction's a little door where the head board of the bed used to be pulled out “Wow,” I exclaimed “A secret door!”

“When we first got this house I asked Mom for a secret door..” she murmured slowly.

After looking at several other rooms, I knew it was time that we get the horses settled in...

“Well, we better get the horses settled in!” I mumbled “Sure!” She said heading towards her room

“Which way is the barn?' I asked getting the idea she was going to let me do it alone “We can go through my secret hideout if you want,” She asked

“What about it?” “Let's go!!” I replied excited. I followed her into the room and repeated the process I stepped into the little tunnel “Just follow it till it has a fork in the tunnel,”She instructed. There were three forks in the road, still wondering what the rest lead too, she instructed me to take a right. Then we went a little ways until there stood a door, I opened it then , it opened into the hay shed, or barn.

“Here we are!” She said looking around trying to spot my horse. “I tied him unto the hitching post where there is the other palomino is” I said hastily looking at the time on my watch

The Stable hand

“This is where your horse, or Asmin will be staying for the week,” She instructed pointing to a very elegant stall.

“Does your horse know English?” She asked “I have started training him in English” I replied “Very well, each time you go out to ride your temporary groom will groom and saddle your horse, all the necessitates.” She replied

“Oh, I wouldn't want you to go through all of that, I enjoy doing the job myself” I replied confused “If you chose so, your tack will be brought to you each morning on your ride, as I have heard that you keep on a schedule” She questioned

“Yes, I do very well, in fact.” I replied “If you change you mind about the groom, please inquire me soon” She said strictly “Also, If you need your tack replaced with new tack, I will see to it you get all the replacements necessary .”

“Thank you, I really appreciate it!” I answered astonished. “Agghh!” I groaned. My schedule “Your schedule will be in your room and another on your horses stall with your tack, and other things.”

I read the schedule, tack cleaning, it was kind of my favorite thing because I got to sit and relax. “Dad always says, that he'd reather sped money to keep safe then sped money to pay for a broken arm, by the way, You want to go for a ride?” Alice said breaking into my thoughts “I can once I am finished cleaning my tack and saddle.“ I answered, pulling a bucket from under my saddle stand.

“Whatcha doin?” She asked “I am going to pour warm water over these soak them, lather them in soap, soak them again, rinse them, and soak them again, than leave them in the sun to dry, I have to go through that process with my nylon” I replied demonstrated “How long does it take?” She asked “About two hours.” I replied. I then noticed that Alice’s eye’s sparked with enthusiasm.

“I'll help you finish then let's go watch some English jumping or something?” She asked “Sure!” I answered “Oh, wait!” I replied remembering Asmin “I have to wash Asmin!” “I'll get Tucker the groom to do that.” She answered “I have to do him only, he only trust me with water and other various things!” I replied shaking my head “Then I'll get Tucker to wash this and clean you saddle and you and I wash Asmin.” She replied like I was a dummy .

Once we finished we went down the secret tunnel into her room. After that we ourselves took a bath and settled on her couch to watch the Television. “What do you want for your bday?” She asked “Ok, I'd have to make a list of what I' d get if I could “ I replied laughing “No, really?” She asked “Here's a list I made” I answered blushing.

“These aren't even for you?” She replied confused “I get what I need on birthday's, that's what I want, especially since It's Asmin's!”I replied “It's more like it's his bday!” She replied laughing

The next day

“Hunny,” My Mom said placing her hand on my shoulder “How much do you like this girl?” She asked. I was confused “Huh?” “Dad looked at me with a familiar twinkle in his eye “What your Mother means is, do you like this girl enough,” He paused “ That you would want to stay with her this year?” “Yes, I do like her very much, but why would I?” “You Mother and I got a tremendous offer to attend a English riding school in England for free!” He exclaimed

“Really!” I exclaimed “That's great! Where will you stay?” I asked “In a friends that we know.” “So, you want me to stay with the Waynes, this year?” I asked “Yes, I trust Mr. Wayne a lot, and he has opened his house for you to stay, if you agree to stay.” “I'll be going to school, right” “Yes.” My Dad replied.

“Well,” I said scratching my chin thoughtfully teasing my Dad “And?” “Yes!” “We'll e-mail every day, or call!” “But there won't be very good reception out there, so you'll need to e-mail if you need anything.”

“Mom?” I asked approaching Mom in my bedroom as she was packing her cloths. “Yes?” she relied stopping her work “What if there are bullies or something, what if I don't like the school?” I asked.

“I know you'll love this school, Alice said she enjoyed it very much, but if you have a problem just e-mail us and we'll see what we can do. If there are bullies, which I am sure there are, e-mail me, I have tips!” She said with a twinkle in her eye, and gave me a bear hug, that washed all my fears about the new school away.

“Bye, Faith,” Dad said hugging me.

“Bye, Hunny, and remember, e-mail! Don't be nervous about school either!” Mom said, than bending down she said “Try to stay away from gangs, in the school, like groups of girls. And remember, Bad company, corrupts good character.”

I sighed as I watched Mom's car slowly drive away and fade in the distance.

The next day I rolled over in bed and groaned. “This is the first day of school” I said thinking aloud and dizzily flopping my head on the pillow.

Suddenly I heard a creek; I jumped out of bed, as I saw a white linen gown disappear out my bedroom door. Just my imagination, I thought as I hurried down stairs into the kitchen.

“Is Alice up yet?” I asked moving towards the fridge.

As I looked out the window “No, she's a sleepy head, she always heads to the kitchen first when she wakes up, that's how I know!” Alice's sister, Jasmine said giggling. I looked out the window, and shook my head as I saw Alice and a boy talking to each other. I turned on the sink and looked back up, both of them were gone. I shook my head and rubbed my eyes.

“I must be seeing things!” I said aloud.

“Huh?” Jasmine said looking at me.

“Oh, I thought I saw Alice and a boy talking, and now they’re gone.”

“Oh, you must've seen Jason, he comes over now and then to help clean out stalls.”

“Oh” I replied shrugging.

“You have an hour to get ready, to go or y’all will be late for school” Jasmine said as Alice walked in.

We were 10 minutes early to school that day. “So do you have friends at this school? I asked as we climbed up the steps into the bus. “Yes! I went to this school last year! She replied. “OK” I thought “This hopefully won't be as bad as I thought”

“Oh, there are my friends, Madison and Adrianna!” Alice exclaimed as we stepped off the bus. Madison's red hair flew in her eyes as she stepped off the bus in her black high heels. “I totally hate these high heels, there not high enough!” Madison said sighing.

At my opinion they looked pretty tall. “I know, I just got these high heels, when my Mom went to New York!” Adriana said as she pointed to her high heels that were yellower than a bee's body. “I like my high heels!” I joked as I pointed to my cowboy boots and tossed my hair “I got them when my Mom went to Texas!” I continued rolling my spurs “You’re funny!” All the girls chorused. “Were going to run to Starbucks to get a coffee” Adriana continued.

“Wanna come?”

“No, y’all just go ahead!” I replied. In large letter on the school building I read Hidden Meadow junior high “Your locker is by the green, locker!” Alice exclaimed trotting up to me “I have to put my things in my locker.” Meet me at room three.” She said as she hurried off to her friends

As I closed my locker door I noticed about five girls walking towards me. “This is my chance to make a good impression!” I thought. Mom's words flew through my head; I pushed them aside, as I walked over to the girls. “Hi!” I exclaimed. “I watched the girls eye travel down my cloths, as she gave a huff of pride. “I don’t remember calling on you.” The leader of the girls paused, and then continued “Your cloths look pitiful!” The other girls giggled as she slapped my books out of my hand, and pushed me aside. I felt my face turn hot red… I thought a second then yanked the girl around “You think I just went over to you to get your approval of my cloths!? NOO! I like the way I dress, and what I dress. And I don't care about your opinion.” I said as I walked off “I glanced back, the girls faces looked angry.. “Oh yeah, those are the school bullies.” Alice said then smiled “You were awesome, but I’d watch out if I were you!”

“This is a free country, and we should be allowed to speak freely, about what we think!” Madison said, looking in her hand-held mirror “Like what?” Alison asked taking a huge bite of her sandwich “Free manicures, every Friday!” Adrianna answered throwing her hand in the air and admiring her nails. At that, I spit out my jelly sandwich that had tasted really good. Then I looked at my nails and giggled, they were basically nothing from me biting them off. “Ya'll wanna come to my house?” Madison asked “Sure!” Alison answered then gave me a questioning glance “I'll just go back to Alison's house.” I answered grabbing my trash and tossing it unto the trash. “Awwww, come on!” She replied pulling my arm till it felt like it might fall off “I'll see, but I need to get back to feed, and do some other things with Asmin.” I replied. But the truth is, I would be sitting there board, as all the girls chatted about new styles, and stuff.

When I reached the Waynes house I threw down my bike and ran to the barn. “Asmin!” I said stroking his neck “I already missed you!” Asmin nickered softly. I slid the stall door open and took the halter and slid it on his nose, and tied it up. Then taking his lead rope I tied it to the other noose on the halter and slid on Asmin's back. I nudged him to go and trotted out of the barn (It took a while though) once I reached the outside arena I loped around and then tried about a two foot jump, up and over, then turning a tight turn I loped up to the next jump, a three foot jump, I pulled my chest up on his neck, and grabbed on his stomach with my calf’s, up and over, I felt like I was flying! “Hey, Grace!” A voice said. I turned my head around. It was Alice’s sister. I grabbed Asmin's mane, as I felt myself slip “Woah!” I yelled. Asmin gave a grunt and slid to a stop, as I slipped off, unto the ground. “Sorry!” “It's ok!” I answered climbing the round pin panels. “Your Mom texted me earlier today and said she couldn't call you, but she would e-mail you.” “Thanks!” I replied

“I'll drive you too Alice's friends house, if you want” Alice's sister said grabbing her purse “Her friends is only a block away, I can walk!” I replied, not wanting to overstay my welcome “No, I have to pick up some things on the way anyway!”

“Your here!” One of Alice's friends screeched “Yeah, I'm here.” I replied yawning “I'm Susan” Alison’s friend said shaking my hand vigorously “I'm Grace” I replied shaking her hand “Why don't we take a shopping spree!” Susan screeched jumping up and down. I was totally not used to that, I hoped I didn't look dumb staring at her with my look “Grace, you can just stay if you'd like” Alice said with a twinkle. Then a woman with flaming red hair, and designer boots walked in “I'd love to take Grace with me, to my horse – lesson!” She said looking in my direction. “I'd love to!” I said jumping up and grabbing my cowboy hat, then looking over at Susan “By the way, I'm Susan's Mom, Atina” “Why didn't you tell me!” I said as I looked in Susan's direction “I didn't think you'd think it was interesting” Susan said smiling with a twinkle in her eyes. I really didn't know what the twinkling in everyone's eyes was, but I was sure I'd get to the bottom of this!
After the lesson Susan's mother taught, we were headed home to her house.

“Is it fine if you could drop me off at the Wayne's so I could check on Asmin?” “Sure!”

I hopped out of the car and hugged my coat closer to me, it was freezing, and the snow had already begun to fall. “Asmin?” I said trotting up to his stall. I looked in his stall, it was empty! A cold ting went down my spine as I panicked and ran throughout the barn asking around, and looking everywhere, now I was sure he was missing.

“Asmin's missing!” I yelled through the whistling of the snow as I ran over to Atina's car.

Chapter 5 of READ and PLEASE COMMENT! (I don't have a title yet)

by Destiny

The next day I rolled over in bed and groaned. “This is the first day of school” I said thinking aloud. Then dizzily flopped my head on the pillow.

Suddenly I heard the creek of my closet door. I jumped out of bed just in time to see a white linen gown disappear out my bedroom door. “That must have been my imagination” I whispered, saying my thoughts

I hurried over down stairs into the kitchen. “Is Alice up yet?” I asked moving towards the fridge. As I looked out the window “No, she's a sleepy head, she always heads to the kitchen first when she wakes up, that's how I know!” Alice's sister, Jasmine replied, giggling.

I looked out the window, and shook my head as I saw Alice and a boy talking to each other, as she pointed to bedroom, and she obviously arguing with him. I turned on the sink and looked back up, both of them were gone. I shook my head and rubbed my eyes. “I must be seeing things!” I said aloud

“Huh?” Jasmine said looking at me “Oh, I thought I saw Alice and a boy talking, and now they’re gone” “Oh, you must of seen Jason, he comes over now and then to help clean out stalls.” “Oh” I replied shrugging “You have an hour to get ready, to go or y’all will be late for school.” Jasmine said as Alice walked in.

We had barely missed school that day. All the way to school Alice chanted on and described every living creature in the school, giving the tiniest details. For instance, Madison: Crazy, Red hair, hot tempered, loves fashion, up to date on every new fashion, or apparel coming out, in Paris, and TOTALLY in fashion, she was very beautiful, and everyone knew that.

OK, my definition was small, two words actually. Genius, Right? City Slicker!

“Oh, there's my friend, Madison and Adriana!” Alice exclaimed as we stepped off the bus.
Madison was just as Alice had described her, she even walked like she described! Adriane was a tall, beautiful blonde, with golden curls, and sky blue eyes. Her clothing was, black leggings, with a longs black short that had black leather fringes on the front, back, and both sides, and Roberto Cavalli black leather stud knee high boots on.

Madison's red hair flew in her eyes as she stepped off the buss in her brown leather gladiator high heels (Yes, that’s that brands name)

“I totally hate these high heels, there not high enough!” Madison said sighing. At my opinion they looked pretty tall. “I know, I just got these high heels, when my Mom went to Paris!” Madison said as she pointed to her high heels. “Then why do you wear them?’

“Because, it’s the latest fashion!” she continued “My Mom found them, at Sergio Rossi, and I just couldn’t go without! They were at a pretty good price!” Adrianne answered enthusiastically “How much?” Adrianne asked “A thousand!” “That is wicked!! Daddy is trying to get me to cut a little lower on the prices; he said “Let’s try to spend at most 10,000 dollars a month”

“So little!” All the girls chorused (Except for me) “I like my high heels!” I joked as I pointed to my cowboy boots and tossed my hair “I got them when my Mom went to Texas!” I continued rolling my spurs

“You’re funny!” All the girls chorused. “Were going to run to Starbucks to get a coffee, after school” Adriana continued “Wanna com?” “No, y’all just go ahead!” I replied grabbing my backpack off the ground, and opened the large glass doors of the school, stopping to glance at the front of the school. In large green letters it wrote Hidden Meadow junior high

“Your locker Is by the green, locker!” Alice exclaimed trotting up to me “I have to put my things in my locker.” Meet me at room three.” She said as she hurried off to her friends

As I closed my locker door I noticed about five girls walking towards me. “This is my chance to make a good impression!” I thought” But Mom's words flew through my head, I pushed them aside, and walked over to the girls. “Hi!” I exclaimed. I watched the girls eye travel down my cloths, as she gave a huff of pride.

“Those cloths are SOOO lame!” One of the girls said as the other girls giggled as she slapped my books out of my hand, and pushed me aside. I felt my face turn hot red… I thought a second then said confidently “You think I just went over to you to get your approval of my cloths!?! I like the way I dress, and what I dress. And I don't care about your opinion.” I said as I walked off “I glanced back, the girls faces looked angry... All the school girls laughed.

“You’ll pay for this you little devil” I heard her say under her breath. “Oh yeah, those are the school bullies.” Alice said then smiled. Out of all the chanting Alice made on the way to school, she left out the most important part! “The leaders name is Ashley” Alice said and her words trailed off….

“This is a free country, and we should be allowed to speak freely, about what we think!” Madison said, looking in her hand-held mirror “Like what?” Alison asked taking a huge bite of her sandwich “Free manicures, every Friday!” Adriana answered throwing her hand in the air and admiring her nails. At that, I spit out my jelly sandwich that had tasted really good. Then I looked at my nails and giggled, they were basically nothing from me biting them off.

“Ya'll want to come to my house?” Madison asked.

“Sure!” Alison answered then gave me a questioning glance “I'll just go back to Alison's house.” I answered grabbing my trash and tossing it unto the trash.

“Awwww, come on!” She replied pulling my arm till it felt like it might fall off “I'll see, but I need to get back to feed, and do some other things with Asmin.” I replied.

I nudged him to go and trotted out of the barn (It took a while though) once I warmed him up in the arena, I knew he was ready for some jumping “Ready bot?” I whispered into Asmins ear. He snorted and jumped into a lope. He loped around and then tried about a two foot jump, up and over, then turning a tight turn I loped up to the next jump, a three foot jump, I pulled my chest up over his neck, and grabbed on his stomach with my calf’s, up and over, I felt like I was flying!

“Hey, Grace!” A voice said. I turned my head around. It was Jasmine. I grabbed Asmin's mane, as I felt myself slip off “Whoa!” I called out. Asmin gave a grunt as he slid to a stop, as I slipped off, unto the ground.

“Sorry!”

“It's ok!” I answered climbing the round pin panels. “

Your Mom texted me earlier today, and said she couldn't call you, but she would e-mail you.”

“Thanks!” I replied as I hopped out of the round pin “Can I text Mom a quick text?” “Sure”

LoverNeverFails: Mom,
Can I go over to one of Alice's friends for dinner?
Grace

“Ding”

AHorseLoverzMom: Grace,
If you feel comfortable, and want to. Use your manners!
Mom

“I'll drive you too Alice's friends house, if you want” Alice's sister said grabbing her purse “Her friends is only a block, I can walk!” I replied, not wanting to overstay my welcome “No, I have to pick up some things on the way anyway!”

“Your here!” One of Alice's friends screeched, as I opened the front door of Alice’s friends house

“Yeah, I'm here.” I replied yawning “I'm Susan” Madison’s friend said shaking my hand vigorously

“I'm Grace” I replied shaking her hand “Why don't we take a shopping spree!” Susan screeched jumping up and down. I was totally not used to that, I hoped I didn't look dumb staring at her with my look “Grace, you can just stay if you'd like” Alice said with a twinkle. Then a woman with flaming red hair, and designer boots walked in “I'd love to take Grace with me, to teach my horse – lesson!” She said looking in my direction.

As I reached the barn, a girl about my age ran up to our car “I can’t get Thunder!” She screeched “Grace, can you get him for her?” “Sure” I replied grabbing the neon pink halter from the little girl’s hand. “He won’t let you get him, he hates riding” The little girl said as I opened the paddock gate.

“Which one is he?” I smiled and asked the little girl “The pinto one!” I looked over to where the little girl pointed to. A beautiful tan, black, and cremello gelding stood. The whites of his eyes showed, as he pranced around his paddock “Easy now, Thunder, easy boy” I spoke softly to the gelding as he looked at me, and stood. Then he reared up and galloped over to the watering bucket and reared up again.

“Easy boy” I spoke again slowly approaching him, then I got close enough to slip the lead-rope around his neck. “Good boy!” I praised him, and stroked his sleek coat. “You can lead him in.” I replied tying on the halter, and laughing inside at the awed look of the little girls face

“Is it fine if you could drop me off at the Wayne's so I could check on Asmin?” I asked climbing into the car, after the lesson was over “Sure!”

I hopped out of the car and hugged my coat closer to me, it was freezing, the snow had already begun to fall. “Asmin?” I said trotting up to his stall. I looked in his stall, it was empty! After searching the entire barn, and all the paddocks, and asking every groom that was at the barn. A cold ting went down my spine as I panicked and ran to the car.

“Asmin's missing!”

"Asmin's missing!" I yelled through the whistling of the snow.

"The phone lines are down!" Atina yelled back tossing her phone in my direction. "They usually go down when it snows!"

"Great." I thought, Asmin's missing, and the phone lines are down?

"Just jump in the car and I'll see what we can do at home!"

At HOME? I thought if we hadn't gone here in the first place, I wouldn't have lost Asmin, and I wouldn't have been separated from my parents! WHY would I call this home!?! Asmin could be anywhere, and you want to go HOME?!?

Reluctantly I plopped in the car with angry thoughts running through my head.

"SURPRISE!" A chorus of shrills yelled as I stepped in Susan's house.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!"

I flipped the light switch on; it looked like an army of people had come over to Susan's house to celebrate my birthday!

All that night I opened cards and read them aloud, ate cake and ice-cream, to please the girls that made the party happen, because I knew how much work had gone through to make the part happen. But thoughts of what could be happening to Asmin were running through my head.

"Time for presents!" Susan yelled throwing a present in my direction. For about 30 minutes I tossed the birthday bags on the couch and reveled the surprises... About 10 different city outfits, and 10 Cowgirl outfits, a new English saddle, Saddle pad, Bridle, English style and Western boots, britches, vest, and showing outfit, and helmet.

"Thank you guys so much, now I know why I kept seeing twinkling eyes, and that, ghost!" I said as I gave each of them a hug.

"Alice and Grace, we have to head home right away, before we can't drive at all? Jasmine said running in the door."

"Awwww!" Susan said grabbing my arm. "I wish you could stay longer!"

"Me too, and thank you soo much!" I said grabbing my coat and shutting the door behind me and Alice.

"You want to watch a movie tonight?"

"Honestly 'd love to, but I have to get to bed!" I replied flopping on my bed, and struggling to take my boots off.

"Did you hear?" I asked.

"What?" Alice asked grabbing a cup of hot chocolate, that Jasmine brought up. "About Asmin?"

"Yeah, the security always comes out and tries to find animals that are missing, don't worry, in the morning they'll have them in the barn." She replied patting my back, and hopping off the couch.

"Does anyone ever understand?" I whispered to myself. No one here were true cowgirls, they just went through the motions! Jasmine was probably the only true cowgirl around here, and the only one that would understand.

"Miss, is Jasmine awake?" I asked a housekeeper that was passing by.

"No, she just went to bed."

"Good Morning, Grace!" Jasmine chimed as I tumbled down the stairs, and landed on my booty.

"The snows so deep, that the police couldn't go out to find missing people, apparently, there's another storm coming this way!"

"Wow." I answered bluntly. Then it hit me. "Asmin.." I whispered hoarsely.
