Chapter One

"Hi Star!" I say to my black, intelligent pony Star. Star. Star snuffles my hair. "Sometimes, I wish you could talk back!" I add with a sigh.

"Hey,Cherry! Do you wanna go for a hack?" my friend Skye asks, walking through the barn doors.

"Eh, sure. I'll just go get my tack. You comin'?"

Skye nods and we sent off for the tack room.

"Good boy Star!" I pat Star's neck. I have to say, Star and Skye's pony Honey make a great couple, what with Honey being a palomino and Star being part Freisian.

"Hey, I have been meaning to ask you, Why is Shay not comin' to the yard as much?" Skye asks.

"Eh..... I don't know!" I answer. You see Shay is a boy that rides at the stables. He's pretty cute and rides his own pony Coco. I know all about why Shay is not coming to the yard anymore. It's because his family are having money problems at the moment. He has a girlfriend called Summer, but he mostly confides in me more.

"Star- Are you all right?" I ask as Star suddenly stops and lifts up his right foreleg. I dismount and check his hoof. There was nothing wrong. Then I look down and I see a purple sparkling thing. I bend down to pick it up. It's a necklace. A purple, sparkly, horse shoe necklace.

"Oh, I really hate sharp things getting stuck under my hooves!" a girl's voice said behind me. I turn around, "Did you say something Skye?"

"No, why?" she asks, dismounting.

"Oh, no it's nothing!"

I think back to what the voice said, I really hate sharp things getting stuck under my hooves.

Hooves!

So it wasn't Skye talking! It was Star!

Chapter Two

Back at the stables, I untack Star, place the mahogany leather onto racks and pegs and rush back to Star's stable before Skye had a chance to spot me.

"OK, Star,I think I can hear you." I say, shutting the stable door with a quiet BANG!.

Star turns round to face me and blinks. Twice. "What? Did I hear you right? I thought you just said you could hear me?"

"Yeah, you did hear me right. I can hear you!" I say, sounding more like I believed it than I did.

"Ok, so if you can hear me, repeat this: I am Star, my mother is Starlight's Pride and my father is Black Lagoon. My mother was Freisian and my father was a cob."

"You said: I am Star, my mother is Starlight's Pride and my father is Black Lagoon. My mother was Freisian and my father was a cob." I repeat.

"Ohhhkaaay! So, how can you hear me exactly!?" Star asks.

"Em, I think it's this necklace," I say, taking out the sparkly necklace I had now put around my neck.

"Nice necklace." Star admires it.

"Thanks." I smile. I was about to give her a hug when I hear a loud shriek. "I be right back!" I say, before rushing out the stable door, only pausing to close the Star's door so she wouldn't get out. I run to the indoor arena, the place where the shrieking is coming from. There I see Shay and Coco and Summer and her pony Cola.

"What's wrong!?" I ask.

"Coco is out of control!" whines Summer. She must've been the one doing the shrieking! Even though she was more experienced enough not to shriek every time a horse disobeys!

"I'm not out of control! I'm in pain!" I hear Coco correct her even though I'm the only one who can hear him.

"Why are you in pain!?" I whisper to Coco as his trots past.

"What? You hear me!?"

I nod in reply.

"Well, girth is starting to cut me!" Coco moans.

"Shay, I think Coco's girth is starting to cut her." I say to Shay.

"How do you know!?" Summer demands.

"Well, for one thing I don't need to tell you! And second it's none of your business!" I say in defense.

"Whatever!" Summer says dramatically, before leaving the arena.

"How do you know?" Shay asks softly.

"Listen, I know this is going to sound crazy, but I can hear him!" I say meekly.

"OK. Well, let's take a look shall we!"

And we have a look at the place where Coco's girth goes. Sure enough, there was a nasty graze.

"Oh no! What have I done to you Coco! I am SO sorry!" Shay exclaims.

"Don't worry! You didn't know! It wasn't your fault!" I reassure him.

"Thanks. And I mean thanks for being there too! And you do know this is the starting of your new title: Pony Whisperer! You didn't think I was going to keep schtume about this, did you!?" Shay teases.

"No, I guess not!" I laugh.

Chapter Three

Everything got a bit hectic after that day in the arena. Like yesterday, Skye came up to me about what does Honey think about her. So I told her: Honey thought the world of her, and that she couldn't have had a better owner. That's what Honey said, believe me! You could see that Honey and Skye really loved each other.

Aaaaanyway, that was yesterday, now it was Saturday and I was riding in the arena with Shay and Skye. We were practicing our jumps for the one-day event we just got told about. We were going to do some jumps then do some dressage. We weren't going to do any cross-country because the ground was too soft from the rain last night.

"We doin' any cross-country today?" Star asks as we wait for our turn after Shay.

"No, sorry!" I say. I say sorry because I know how much she likes cross-country. Although, she likes dressage a tiny bit more.

"That's OK. Could we do some tomorrow?" Star tries again.

"If it doesn't rain tonight we will." I reassure her.

I hear her stifle a YAY!.

"OK Cherry, your turn!" Shay says, cantering back from the course he just completed. I canter Star for a lap around the ring before taking the parallel bars we set up. It was one meter high. I make sure Star's stride is correct and we soar over the parallel bars and onto the cross rails. Again, I make sure Star's stride is correct and we soar over them too. We manage the rest of the course without any mishaps. I pat and hug Star for being so good. I just knew we'd be perfect at the one day event.

Next it was Skye's turn. She knocks down a rail from the parallel, but manages the rest of the course fine.

"Well done Skye!" me and Shay chorus.

"Hey, you were good too Shay, and you were brilliant Cherry!" Skye insists.

I blush. I don't like being the center of attention for too long.

Me and Star are back in Star's stable. I have just untacked Star. I am grooming her until Shay comes in.

"Hi!"

"Hi!" I reply.

"I-I didn't get to thank you for telling me about what was wrong with Coco." Shay says. I can see him fiddling behind his back like he's nervous.

"No biggie. I'm just glad Coco's OK now." I say, blushing.

"Well, I've been meaning to give you this ever since you came here last month."

"What is it?" I ask.

"This." And Shay leans over and kisses me.

"Ya kissed me!" I say, shocked.

"Yeah, sorry.." Shay starts.

"Ya, but, ya kissed me!!"

"I'm sorry, I should go," Shay bolts out of Star's stable.

***********************************************************

"Hey, Cherry, Shay has been acting weird since yesterday. Do you know why?" Skye asks me over Star's stable door.

"No! No, I don't! Why do you think I might know?!" I say fast, a little too fast.

"OK, OK. No need to act like that! God!" Skye walks away from the stall.

I groan. Me and Skye never fight. Little did I know that what I was about to get into was bigger than I could imagine!
