I'm not an expert but maybe he got spooked or didn't want to see one of the other horses?

So, here are my suggestions...
by: Mary Ashley

So, maybe your pony is trying to protect you. Horses can also tell how your feeling. So try to keep calm and don't approach from behind. Approach towards the head. And have a horse treat and if he bucks, don't give it to him/her. If he/her doesn't buck, then give it to him. If you have dogs or cats that wander I'd advise I'd round them up and put them inside because maybe its them who is making him buck.

Good luck!

I think I can help.........
by: HORSES ROCK THIS WORLD!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I have helped my friends train their horses before and and broken in two mini pony foals from scratch so I think I can help.

I agree with most things that people have already said, but theirs one thing that hasn’t been mentioned....

I find that several weeks in a drop nose band and running martingale often work wonders with a bucket. Used with a plain egg butt snaffle with two reins. The martingale should be fixed to the bottom rein. This combination puts the rider at advantage and gives you more control then you would have in a normal or double bridle without any danger of the horse becoming constricted or afraid of his mouth.

This method has worked for me before so hopefully it does for you to.

Some Ideas....
by: HorseGirl

Maybe your horse is trying to tell you that something is hurting him. Or, maybe something along that fence scared him. Like the comment by simone said you might want to try lunging and doing ground exercises with him, because he might just have been feeling frisky, especially with the other horses nearby. Also, if you feel him getting ready to buck try to sit up tall and stick your legs forward. If he keeps doing this you might want to have your vet look at him to see if he is sore.

Hope that this helps!

ground work
by: simone

When you want to ride Peppy, but he seems frisky, try lunging him for a few minutes before you ride. If he seems agitated, his tack might not be fitting properly.

Sometimes when a horse bolts its because they have too much energy. Try doing something that takes lots of energy but don't go too fast.

Lastly, he might be bothered by the bit. Try using a softer kind or even no bit at all.

Hello!
by: Hoofbeats

I'm not sure if the comment was for me, but yes I have read Winnie The Horse Gentler and it definitely helped me in my horse training!

Some tips:
If Peppy is bolting maybe you are feeding him an energetic food (that he shouldn't be having)? Also he might be bored with where you ride him or the way you ride him.

What I mean is, that if you repeat the same exercise or activity over and OVER again, he will get bored (so would I... Ha Ha)

Anyway, I hope this helped and I'm more than happy to continue writing you if any other problems occur!

OK thanks, I will try! And I ride bareback so if you know how to stay on my pony bareback that would be great! He is taking off too. I will tell you if it gets better and as much comments as possible would be great!

Possible solution for Peppy...
by: Hoofbeats

I know that pigrooting isn't exactly like bucking, but my horse sometimes pigroots when he canters. What you're supposed to do to prevent him from doing so, is to make him hold his head up high. Maybe it will work with your Peppy.

Be sure to give us an update on how he improves!

Just a question, do you know how you can stay safer in the saddle on a bucking horse? If you do then that's great but even if you do, I'll still post it here.

If you feel a buck coming on but cannot prevent it, bridge your reins by passing the spare end of one rein through your other hand (under the thumb). If you should be thrown off balance, provided you keep your hands down, the "bridge" will help you being thrown so far forwards that you hit the deck. In extremis there is no reason why you should not grab hold of your horse's mane!

Hope this helps!

Ali,

It's so hard to know what's going on but I'll post it -- maybe some other horsecrazy girls have dealt with this too and have some tips!
