I really enjoyed your story. I also love dapples, and you explaining the scenery really reminded me of a place I hiked recently, it was so peaceful up there. :)
Shading comes with a technique. I personally have taken a likening to it. I love real dark shades of black, anything dark is perfect for me. As what I say, with everything practice makes perfect.
But after all, I'm the same way. I look around my house and there's still old drawings hanging up and in scrapbooks.

Well, not really. I can kind of, slightly, barely draw a decent looking horse, and that's pretty much it. I've turned out some pretty good trace-drawings of people, but I consider tracing cheating :P
I've been drawing horses for as long as I can remember. Go back into any of my old notebooks or school books, and you will most likely find at least one horse doodle.
I stink at shading.
I would LOVE to be as good as you, Aspen!
I loveeee doing their manes and tails.
One of my favorites, is a dapple grey, with black points (this is in regular pencil) running across a grassy field, and in the background are some mountains. Then put a few fluffy clouds in the sky :P

I've been an artist for many moons, and I have had my UPS and my DOWNS like most of the artists out there. I draw famous singers portraits, wildlife, and of course other animals like my favorite ~HORSES~
Comment below on when you started drawing and why you like it. If you could post a picture of your drawing in the comments I would ask for that but since you cannot, just talk about your favorite piece of art.

I would love to do that but in the summers I get incredibly busy so I don't do much drawings and if I do, there usually these great big detailed pieces that takes days to get finished. I will look at pictures of rearing horses at sunset though and will think about it. If I do happen to draw the picture, I will at once post it on here for you to see :)
