Hector really isn't a bad horse! He was just misunderstood. No one taught him any better. He must have been mean to Chester to mask his insecurity, and only in bullying Chester did he feel that he could make friends. As Anonymous also mentioned, he obviously had feelings for Shining Star (as I like to believe. There was no proof of this in the books, but I really do feel that he loved her). Seeing Chester with her all the time must have made him feel sad. Hector is a good horse, just look from his point of view.

I just don't understand why everyone's hating over Hector. Think for a moment, guys. He must have been treated pretty cruelly to have ended up the way he did. Give him a chance!
I can imagine, in his foalhood, he was abused by his father... Or maybe he was dumped by his parents... if he too, like Chester, was an orphan, with no one to teach him right from wrong. Come on, guys!
And the author made it pretty clear in the book that while they were foals, Hector had a crush on Shining Star, and seeing her with Chester all the time must have really hurt him!
I LOVE Chester, but stop hating on Hector. He's a great character, just give him a chance!

Down below, Anonymous was talking about his posture and the way he looks and to tell you the truth, Hector is a lot like a horse in one of my stories. His name is Strify. He's a purebred white Hanoverian stallion who thinks he smells like roses lol AND let me just tell you in the herd (in my story) he's not a big groupie. He's a loner and at times can be depressing and sometimes evil. But what can you say, Stirfy will be Strify, lol, and Hector will be Hector ;)
