Kara looked up as her Uncle Josh walked into the room. "...I, I'm sorry Kara, it's true." She started sobbing all over again. Kara Green was not usually the girl to cry. But today was an exception. Kara had just found out that a red pickup, with a horse trailer attached, had been in a rollover accident.
The car had been holding two people, a man, and a woman. They were Jonathan, and Jill Green. Kara's parents. Also in the horse trailer had been Kara's horse, Hope. Kara had gotten Hope when she needed something to keep her mind off the pain of JoJo, her first horse, dying of colic. Kara looked up again.
"What, what will happen to me?" she asked her Uncle.
"I'm going to call your social worker," he said, "she'll find you some foster parents for you to live with until, your old enough to live on your own." Kara stared at him with disgust.
"So you're just going to dump me on some foster parents who are PAYED to watch me! Why can't I live with you?" she said.

The next day, Kara's social worker, Ms.Harper stopped by to talk with Uncle Josh. Kara didn't listen to their conversation until she heard, ".... I found the perfect foster parents for Kara..."

As Kara Green looked out Ms. Harper's window, she sighed. She didn't understand why her parents had to die, why she was forced to live with this strange family. But Kara was used to having no say in any matter.
"Kara, dear we are almost there." said Ms. Harper, Kara's kindly social worker. Kara looked out the window at a passing sign it read, Welcome to Ontario.
"You're taking me to Canada?!" she said in outrage.
"Yes sweet, it's for your own good." Ms. Harper said, and for the rest of the drive she was silent.

About an hour later, Ms. Harper pulled off on to a narrow road with a sign that said, "Welcome to Green Springs." Kara gasped, this was where her mother had grown up. What were they doing here?
