The story is doing just great. The plot flows, the characterization develops - I like seeing things from April's point of view, too, so we can see what's going on in her head and predict her reaction to the narrator's problems with her. I think she should call him Sunshine, as well... it sounds like a name that a girl like April would pick for a horse. She wouldn't name a horse Thunderstorm or Fire Whirl - Angel or Sunshine is a likely choice for her.
