Here we asked Parker to share how she came up with and created this truly amazing
Halloween horse costume idea.
How did you come up with your horse costume idea? My mare is extremely magical and what is more magical than Mary Poppin's carousel horse, Jingles? I wanted to let Jay shine and stand out above all the other horses at the contest. The hardest part was figuring out how to turn a gray flea bitten mare into a purple horse!
How did you make it? Jay's outfit took 6+ hours to paint her purple with human biodegradable body paint, 2 hours to paint all the flowers and vines on her. Her saddle was an English saddle that I sewed a felt cover for and slipped it over the saddle to protect it from all the paint. Her "pole" was a pcv pipe attached to 1/2 a solo cup, foam wrapped around the cup and slide under the saddle for comfort for Jay. I attached a gold ball at the top with streamers. Her hooves was painted with Elmers glue and sprinkled with glitter. My costume was bought and enhanced to depict Mary Poppins exactly.
How much does it cost? With the purchase of my outfit, paint, glue, felt, and glitter. $37.00 The most expensive part was the human tattoo body paint
Where did you wear it? Ohio State Fair had a Decorate your horse contest. It was such much fun!! I wish 2020 would have allowed us to attend shows this year. Jay loves it as much as I do!
How did people react? Everyone LOVED it. People stood around for hours watching Jay transform into Jingles. So many ppl were taking our pictures. When they announced the winner...they played supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and everyone stood up and cheered. it was amazing!
How did your horse like it? Oh she is a HAM and loves attention. She stood in her stall quietly the entire time I painted her...at times she even fell asleep. When I finished painting her and put her saddle and pole on her...she strutted to the arena. She knew she looked amazing!
