"The thunder crashes hard against the trees as you gallop hard along the gravel the rain whips your body hard as you keep galloping yes i can see you alright, But wait your galloping away and not towards me why? I call your name as loud as i can "please Serendipity i beg you" Then out of the blue there's a farmer on a pure white stallion hes got a gun "oh no" i whisper as i look frantically around "Where are you?" i say Then suddenly i spot you your cantering through the dodgy trees but the farmer is close i stand shocked and cold praying for nothing to happen then your trapped i see him yes hes raising the gun and as he loads it i Scream!
Courtney shot up in her bed and gasped for air, Her eyes pricked with tears on till she let them run down her cheeks as she grabbed her pillow from behind she clenched it harder than ever before. Her room was dark and only had a bit of light from the moon that shone in from the outside of her window. Courtney turned to her alarm clock it said 3.00am She sighed as a shiver hit her body, Slowly but quietly she climbed out of bed and walked over to her window the moon was bright and made it hard to see she stared hard at the barn before walking over to her drawers where she pulled out a thick jacket zipped it up then headed out on to the landing.
When she reached the bottom of the stairs she grabbed her rain coat and riding hat before heading out into the cold she ran across the loan and into the feed room she was about to turn on the light when she hesitated and thought to herself "no i wont bother" she mumbled She didn't want to risk waking her mother seen as though she would freak if she found out her daughter was out so early in the morning. Courtney was an only child who lived with her mother Sarah brown. Courtney's dad left a few years ago when she had turned 8. She would see him on the weekends but she didn't bother no more because he had moved away with his new wife and kids. She hated it when her mum and dad was having a divorce kinda ruined the family she thought. It was fair strange living with her mum well she loved her ever so much just they wasn't alike Well they looked like each other they both had long light brown hair and tanned skin with big dark eyes although Courtney was crazy about horses while her mum completely hated them. Courtney never understood why mind you it did take a while before her mum gave in a let Courtney have a horse of her own. She stood at the door thinking back to that day when she was choosing her horse she had asked her riding instructor Cheryl if he'd come along and help her he had suggested for her to by a horse that was at least over six years old and had lots of training experience and so as she looked around there was so many to choose from she didn't know where to start. Her mum said to look at the ponies first but as Courtney walked over to them she burst out laughing And said "Mum i know you said to look at the ponies but i didn't think you meant it?" they was 12 hands way to small but she pattered the black and white Shetland then walked of she searched and searched.
Then suddenly she spotted a magnificent horse a 15.1 Thoroughbred with a gouges blaze right down the middle of her forelock she had four pure white hocks and was over the age of six she was perfect a little stubborn but Courtney didn't care she was in love. A few days later she went to try her mare out as she mounted up into the saddle and asked her to walk on she responded straight away she had the most perfect strides and that was finale there was no over horse that could beat anything like her yes the lovely mare was Serendipity the most finest match for young Courtney.
Now standing in the world of daydream she blinked and pulled her self together she routed around in the dark for the carrots when she finally felt them she grabbed a few shoved them in to her pocket then ran around the corner and in to the barn her horse whined at her as if to say hello. Courtney walked over to her calmly and whispered in her ear "Hey beautiful, you miss me? yes im sure you did" Serendipity Nudged her pocket she could smell the carrots alright "hey stop that" Courtney laughed as she pulled them out she placed them on the parm of her hand and held it flat as Serendipity took them nicely and made a crunching sound with her teeth Courtney laughed at this and said "Gosh you wouldn't win who could eat the quietest" Her horse shuck her head in a agreement then snorted as she realized all the carrots had gone.
"Courtney, Darling wake up your going to be late for your rally" Sarah Rambled on as she pulled open the curtains then pulled the cover of Courtney but she wasn't there "ohh, for goodness sake now where is she" As she stormed out of her daughters bedroom. Courtney who was still asleep in the stable with her horse suddenly rose up "oh my god! im gonna be late" she got up quickly moved the blankets Grabbed Serendipity water bucket jogged outside to the the tap filled it up with some fresh water then took it back to the stall she then grabbed her feed bucket Serendipity began to move around restlessly in her stall "ok girl i know, your breakfast is on its way" As she rushed to the feed room she Quickly mixed some chaff then took it back to her horse's stall and placed it in the far corner "good girl, you eat that while i go and get changed" It was a perfect Spring morning the sun was warm with birds all around and that fine smell of fresh air Courtney was so interested in her world she wasn't thinking about the real world and that meant she didn't notice her mum and went flying in to her.
"Oh, For heaven's sake Courtney your running 15 minutes late where have you been? Don't tell me you stopped out in the barn again?" She looked up and gave her mum a weak smile that's exactly what she had done but instead of arguing with her mother she jogged of bounded up the stairs in to her room pulled out her riding outfit and got changed she then did her hair shoved her new riding boots on and ran down the stairs her mum was right she was running late she also began to feel really sick and the smell of bacon didn't help and so she thought that she would skip breakfast besides she didn't really have time it was 7:15 she had half an hour to get her horse tacked up her main pulled and she was gonna meet her two best friends at the hay vale paddock the girls had named it that because when the had bought the land they was old hay vales laying around in the fields as she hopped out side she grabbed her bike and set of down to the paddock her mum had taken Serendipity in the horse truck she was offered a lift but she had said no seen as though the weather was lovely for a morning bike ride.

As soon as she was at the gate she let her bike go, climbed over the fence. Her best friends Nicole and Olivia were all ready there. Their horses Starstruck and Lexi were being groomed and having their manes pulled. Courtney sighed and glanced at her watch it was 7:25, she had 20 minutes to get her horse groomed and tacked up.
She took off Serendipity's blanket and began scrubbing. It wasn't too bad because she had groomed her last night and got rid of most of the mud so she needn't worry. She then started pulling her horses mane when someone touched her on the back.
Courtney screeched and turned around, it was Nicole. "Nicole you startled me!" She laughed. Nicole had her long blonde hair tied neatly back in a bun with her net over the top. She had her navy blue sweater on with the pony club logo on which said Starlight Mount Pony Club. It was pretty much an odd name - the girls had thought that from the start but they didn't care now.
With those pale blue eyes staring at her, Courtney turned her back and began putting Serendipity's tack on. It was shiny black and as she tightened the girth she heard a truck pull up.
"Ohh noo, Cheryl is gonna kill me for being late!" Courtney moaned to her friends. They just giggled.
As Cheryl turned the corner, he had a smile on his face. But when he saw the girls still getting ready he frowned. Cheryl was wearing his plain white breaches with his matching polo shirt, he had his black blazer on and his long curly hair tucked neatly behind his ears. He also carried his riding crop as he started to walk over to them.
He was just a few meters away when he shouted "Ahhh, see you girls aren't ready! I thought I could trust you girls to be ready on time! it seems I might have to have you all at the paddock earlier on rally days huh?"
They all sighed when Courtney said "sorry Cheryl its my fault, I guess I woke up a bit late."
"Yeah, she was to busy dreaming about her boyfriend." Olivia shrieked.
Courtney glared at her how could she just say that when she didn't even have one. She felt her cheeks go bright red like someone was holding a oven next to them. Cheryl seemed to understand and quickly changed the subject.
"Yes, well Olivia where is your tie? And why is your hair not tied back properly?" She seemed a bit embarrassed to say anything and began to fiddle with Lexi's mane.
When they arrived at the Pony club grounds, Courtney began to feel sick. She hadn't been here for a while because of the winter but was happy to be back. Although she could feel butterflies somersaulting in her stomach she held it for a moment just to make sure it she didn't feel sick.
Her instructor looked at her and gave a smile, he seemed to have read her mind. "You'll do just fine I promise. Think as a rider for a second instead of yourself and take a couple of deep breaths. You don't wanna pass your nerves on to your horse do we now?"
Courtney looked up and smiled then said "Thanks Cheryl, thank you for everything." Even though he didn't reply she knew he meant you're welcome. Cheryl always acted hard on his riders but deep down he was soft.
"Could contestant 15 please enter the arena?" Courtney sighed as she went to warm her horse up ready for the jumps. She did a few practice ones first then got some advise from Cheryl. "As you enter the last jump you will need to take at least 3 strides before you jump it not any less or anymore dead on 3 okay?"
"Uh-huh, okay." She mumbled with a shaken voice. Number 17 had just entered the ring and so she lined her horse up ready and watched in shock. There was a young pretty girl wearing the same uniform, "who is that?" She thought.
"Who is that, her horse is stunning" Nicole had happened to read her mind.
"I don't know?" Courtney replied her eye's set on the dappled grey. Her mane was pulled so neat, there wasn't a strand out of place. Her dark eyes focused on the jumps and her tail flowed lightly behind as she rose into the air and landed cleanly on the other side.
"Ohh, you're looking at Sophie and Layla?"
"So that's her name?" Courtney looked at Olivia.
"Yup, but I'd stay clear if I were you, she's the snobbiest person I've ever met!"
"She's a good rider I tell you that." Nicole announced.
"Yeah I know, looks like she's got a clear round and a fast time. I guess it's down to you," said Olivia.
"Huh? I can't. I'm rubbish! I think I'll drop out, she's too good." Courtney whispered
"What? No way! If we had to go through it so do you! Come on you can tell Serendipity is ready, besides you've got way better chances than anyone here." Nicole smiled.
"You really think so?" asked Courtney.
"I don't think so, I know so."
Courtney smiled at this and clucked her horse on. She leaned over her shoulder and whispered, "come on girl this is it, let's show them what you're made of."
"Please can our last contestant Courtney Brown on Serendipity enter the arena?"
Courtney felt herself get excited. Her friends were right, she was ready for this. As she entered the ring, Cheryl said "Good luck, you can do this."
"Thanks, Cheryl."
She walked to the middle of the arena and waited to be told when to start. "Okay Courtney you may start." She nodded her head and clucked her horse on, "come on girl nice and easy." She felt Serendipity pounce forward and as she entered the first jump she felt like this was a dream.
Serendipity had taken off at such a good pace and landed perfectly on the other side. She continued the same pace for each jump. When she saw the the last jump, she remembered what Cheryl had told her - "remember 3 strides only."
She set Serendipity upright and counted the strides 1,2,3.. Then she launched high into the air. The wind whipped her face and she had landed a clear round, also a fast time.
"Can Courtney Brown, Gemma Dickinson and Andrew Stevenson come collect the prizes?"
Later that afternoon Courtney, Nicole and Olivia went back to the truck and tied their horses up before heading over to the picnic table for lunch.
"Mmmmm, I'm awfully Starving." Courtney giggled.
"Same here, oh and congratulations for placing first. I told you you could do it ehh?" Nicole beamed.
"Thanks Nicole, couldn't have done it without you."
"Ermmm, excuse me you childish kids which one of you came first in jumping today?" Sophie had found them and had greeted them by snapping.
"Ohh its nice to meet you too, and it was me who won. Got a problem?" Courtney sniggered.
"Yes, in fact I have! You didn't deserve to win on that ridiculous horse of yours. Don't you realize how funny you look bouncing about on that stupid flea-bag? And what a pathetic name Serendipity!" Laughed Sophie.
Courtney was offended by this and hurt and so she didn't say anything else.
"Ermmm, for your information you are such an ungrateful cow so why not go shove your face in some horse dropping! Seems as though you smell of it!" Teased Olivia.
Sophie was clearly annoyed by this and stormed off in a strop. Courtney got up and walked over to Serendipity. "Don't worry girl you are not a flea-bag. You are gorgeous, also the best horse ever and you know I love you to bits! So just ignore that stuck-up brat." Courtney hugged her mare and gave her a kiss on her white blaze.
"Are you okay?" Nicole asked.
"Huh-huh." Courtney smiled at her then stepped into her horse truck to get her horse ready for this afternoon.
It was the last rally of the day, Cross Country. Courtney didn't really like it that much. She always got confused on one of the jumps or something.
After everyone had their go, it was time for her to have her go. "Come on girl let's do this." She cantered her mare towards the first jump. It didn't seem so bad, she had 25 to do. As she made her way around the course she reached number 21 a high jump. She couldn't see over it and on the other side would be water.
"Concentrate Courtney please." She set her horse up as she snorted. Serendipity launched into the air when Courtney realized that she should have pulled her up. There was no chance they were gonna make it. As she got halfway up, Serendipity smashed down right on the jump then toppled...
"Hello girl how are you? You're gonna be coming home with me soon."
"I love you and you know that, you know that, yes you know that." As she hit the floor the water splashed. She herd a scream, someone calling her name. She felt the grass and wanted to stand up but everything was spinning. She heard a terrifying sound as she struggled to free herself. It repeated in her head, then she could taste blood as she gasped for air on until all was black.
