dont worry
by: Anonymous

i used to be in ur problem but now i have 2 ponies.

don't annoy your parents about coz they'll end up getting grumpy.

maybe don't mention it for a week or something and make up a booklet on the costs, the fun, what you'll do and what you know. so that they know a bit more. owning a horse (or two) is a BIG responsibility. can you keep a horse anywhere?? any family??

ask ur instructor to look around for horses. but remember to get and older been-there-done-that horse as a first horse. hope this helps. good luck!! :)

I know how you feel
by: Hannah

I know exactly how you feel. I've been begging for as long as I can remember for a horse, and what did my parents get me? A cat. Yup, I love her, but its just not the same.

One of my friends once did this for a dog and it worked:

You just need to prove you can.
She researched breeds, care, and everything imaginable, then wrote a paper about it.

My parents have an excuse(And a pretty good one, too): My mom just got her hours cut at work.

So I'm saving up myself. I've done some research, and this is what I found out:

For the place I'd board the horse at, it would cost over $2000 a year. That's not including vet bills, tack, or the horse itself. Now I'm not trying to discourage you, but that's a lot of money to be paying by yourself.

The two biggest problems with horses are cost and responsibility (And for my family, my mom is afraid of horses because one naughty little pony bit her..Hard..)

And of course, if you don't already have them, you need riding clothes. Total, it comes to around $3000 a year, unless the horse has a serious injury. But that's just according to my research.

Also, just one last thing. Do you have a specific horse in mind that you want to buy? Keep in mind you probably want a trained one so you don't have to spend any more money than you have to with training equipment/a trainer. I've found them for as little as $400.

GOOD LUCK AND LET US KNOW HOW IT TURNS OUT! :)

well...i just got my horse, but didn't pay much for him. maybe if you tell your mom and dad that if you show enough responsibility that they have to get you a horse. but i also know why they are saying no,having a horse is expensive, lots and lots of work, time and most of all money. all i had to do was ask my dad for a horse, i have had a pony, shetland pony and now my horse. it also depends on where you live. farm, country, town or in between. i have had all sorts of animals before so i am responsible.

horses these days are cheap. don't give up yet. once you get a horse it will be worth anything. having a horse is a dream. especially working with them. good luck.

Hang In There!
by: Anonymous

I know what you are going through. I went through it for YEARS.I tried all the things you tried, but the answer was still "no." Then my eyes opened and I realized that it was not because my parents wanted to make life miserable for me. I began to see things from their perspective. Owning a horse does take a lot of time and the dreaded word... money. I discovered that it pained my parents deeply to not be able to buy a horse for me. I'm sure that your parents are not trying to make life hard for you, but things may stand in the way that make it seemingly impossible for your dream to come true. Hang in there girl! Even if you must wait until you're thirty, it will be worth it. :)

this might help
by: Anonymous

when is your next birthday coming up cuz you can write a list of things you want and just put on it like for example:

1.a horse
2.a horse
3.a horse and so on,and also, tell your instructor that you're trying to get a horse and your instructor will probably talk to your mum, cuz instructors are really chatty.

good luck!

don't worry
by: Anonymous

I learned that my parents only get me the things I want when I stopped begging for them because they think I don't want them anymore... I eventually stopped asking for a horse and the next time I went to my grandparent's horse farm I was given a little red and white foal who is now an almost 6-year old red and white paint mare who has so far had 1 foal.
