Daisy

Daisy

I thought of a title! How about "Daisy Gone Mad?" What do you guys think?
***********************

With tears in my eyes I held out my hand. The horse shied away and continued to munch on some hay.

"Here girl!" I wiped the tears from my eyes. The horse took one step forward, but showed no interest in me.

My mom shrugged and grabbed her halter.

"Go open the garage, we'll try to ride her."
I obeyed my mom and grabbed the garage door opener from her outstretched hand. I pressed the button and the garage door opened.

The horse struggled to get free from my mom, but my mom shoved her against the hay. I reached out to stroke her, but the horse reared up in attempt to strike me.

"Dang it Elli! Just leave it be for a minute!" My mom scolded trying to get a good grip on the horse. I took a step back and sat on a bale. I watched anxiously, feeling hurt, as my mom dragged the wild horse onto the driveway.

"Sorry sweetheart, come try to mount and I'll walk you down the street." I stood up and began to walk towards the two.

I had always wanted a horse, but I wanted a horse like they got in movies and books. The ones that right away loved you and knew they were yours. Not some wild nag who thinks your a speck of dirt.

"We can trade it in for a different horse." My mom suggested. I didn't answer. I reached out my hand as I moved to the left side of the horse.

"Steady now girl. By the way, her name's not Noel. That's the brand of halter. Her name is Daisy, unless you want to change it." I shook my head and grabbed the saddle horn and the cantle. A sudden rush of fear and panic came over me as I put a foot in the stirrup.

"Hurry up now before she does something!" My mom demanded giving me a boost up. At that instant, everything went in slow motion. Daisy sidestepped, knocking my mom out of the way. My mom got back up and tried to grab Daisy's halter as she reared up again. I held onto the cantle with one hand, and the saddle horn with the other as I was being thrown around. I clung on tightly to Daisy's neck, and my foot slipped out of the stirrup.

Almost in an instant I was thrown from her back and was flying through the air. Luckily I landed in the grass, but my mom had grabbed Daisy's halter and was fighting to keep her under control. Daisy spotted the grass and bolted over there, her hooves just inches from my face. She calmed down and began to graze.

My mom looked wide eyed at me.

"Go ask the neighbor's if we can keep her in their pasture." she demanded. I got up quickly and limped across the street.
