HELP HORSE SLOWLY KILLING HIMSELF!!!!!

by kylie
(CA)

Hi I have a horse named Noble and hes the best!!! But he has hung his head over the rail in his stall since he was a baby! This is slowly killing him because he his damaging his throat. So I thought "hey I will put him in the paddock so he cant hang his head cuz the rails are taller then him."

So I did that and now he just sticks his head through the rails and hangs his head.:( He's the kind of horse that needs a lot of attention and when he gets it he doesn't do it as much. And I'm out here everyday! but he still does it so do you have any advice on how I can get him to stop?

Maybe you could wrap his neck in some sort of padding? And I agree with the others, he needs a vet FAST!

thx for the advice but it seems like I won't need to fix him:( he's going to be put down because I was only leasing him and his owner can't pay the vet bills and teeth and everything and neither can I. anyway thx for the advice.

VET
by: Anonymous

Vet needed! I think u def need pro help! I am not expert @ all but I definitely think that he needs a vet. Or if u cant do that, maybe well try him with a foster fam For a week or so this may help then when he comes back watch him 24/7 and compare notes with the foster fam? idk.
Oh and I heard a story like that the horse had the exact same problem, turns out he was ridden english but they tried him western he LOVED IT! he needed space and fresh air, working with cattle. idk hope he's OKAY!

ya, his best friend is in the stall next to him and we have a pony but I would love to get him out but I can't because where I live its hard in the winter and our round pen broke and tons of people are in our arenas so it's hard to get in.

Help
by: Havyn

You should probably spent more time riding and working with him. He also shouldn't be left alone ➕ he should get extra snacks and water.

Does he have any companions?? Other horses or even a goat might make a difference.

I called the vet and along time ago and he said to put him on red sil so I did but he still does it from time to time now its for attention. the other thing is since its winter time its been raining like crazy in CA. so I cant take him out to ride or at least lunge him so hes cooped up in a stall all day. I take him for walks when I can but he almost killed me last time by rearing and bucking like crazy! I don't know what to do:(

hmmm...

I know this sounds kinda mean but you could hand electric wire inside the fence, you know with those yellow things and so if he hung his head over the rails he would get shocked and know not to do it.Or you could nail ckicken wire in between the rails so he couldnt stick his head through.
