Thanks, that was a really useful comment, yesterday when I went for my horse riding lesson I actually did tell the instructor that I didn't really want to ride tucker anymore, she was totally cool and put a note down that I wouldn't be given tucker for awhile, and I got to ride my fave horse lol :) I got a little confidence back -the fact the ground was covered in snow and Cherry slipped a few times didn't help :P - but at least i'm happier to canter round corners now!
Thanks for the comments everyone :)

Your not a bad rider! It's not your flat that tucker is misbehaving! Tell your instructor that you don't like tucker and you arent happy with your ride. You need to ride a pony or horse that suits your ability and that you feel confident on. I know that when I fall off a horse 3-4 times I don't want to ride him again. Especially when I don't exactly like the horse!!! Tell her you would like a different horse. She should let you ride any horse that is at your skill level. If there are not any horses that you feel confident on at your level try a different barns with more of an selection of horses! Hope this helps! Good luck!!!

Don't worry ;)
by: Lara

First of all, do NOT think that you're a bad rider just cause you have lost confidence. Everybody falls off, everybody loses confidence. It's not just you.
Also, talk to someone like your instructor or parents. You can't pretend it's okay and you are fine about riding Tucker. Trust me. I pretended that I was happy with what I was doing once when I was actually very scared, just because I didn't want the other girls in my lesson to think I was a rubbish rider. Well, that worked. -_-

Seriously, tell someone. Trust me, it's the best thing you can do :)

riding
by: hanson

1st stop jumping him if u don't feel confident!!!
i would just do beginner riding for awhile, trail rides around the barn yard, bring him around stuff that might scare him, and always be ready to jump off. my horse likes to do that sort of stuff, so i barely put my feet in the stirrups and always wear a helmet, maybe even a vest.

safe riding!!

Yeah
by: Western Rider

I fell off 7 times in an english saddle,(jumping, corners, etc...) so I switched to western. Western is way better for beginners and it can help experienced riders regain their confidence.
I would recommend going western until your confidence is back, since you are not going to be jumping anyways. That's what I did, and it worked! I actually stayed western riding. So yeah, I have to sacrifice jumping, but hey, I feel more secure! And I don't have to stay western, I can ride english to jump somtimes, too!
PS: I'm moving to a diff riding stable. It's gonna be FUN! (If they have western horses)

vids
by: Anneka

I checked out those vids. Nice riding! I would be a bit skeptic too, because it happened to me! On my horse! Three x in a row!
Just keep going, if things get much worse, it can only go uphill!!
Just remember, we all go through our lumps n bumps in riding.
Goodluck!

don't be scared
by: Anonymous

I fell off a horse and was really scared to get back on but I thought that if I don't face my fears now then I never will so I got on rode and I kinda forgot about falling off!

P.S
by: Anonymous

And also :P
I`m not SCARED of riding him, just much much MUCH too careful because I don't want to make mistakes, this is the lesson when he tripped over
http://youtu.be/LUAvoIi-oUY
Before that I had a lesson on cherry (it's better quality so you can see how i usually rise lol)
http://youtu.be/TimMB-q5A98
I'm not a scared rider or anything, but after three falls in a row on the same pony i'm getting a bit skeptic!

Thanks :)
by: Jazz

Thanks for the comments, I noticed a lot of them said 'spend time with him' or along those lines, but the thing is, he isn't MY horse, I live quite a way from the stables, he's used practically all the time in lessons and i'm not allowed to hang around or anything, which instantly knocks off about a hundred things. I know you probably wouldn't know that (everyone else seems to be able to go to the stables all the time and do whatever they want-except me!) and of the three times i`ve ridden him i've fallen off! I don't mean it in a mean way at all, but any comments saying 'spend time with him' aren't going to work :( some of them do though, so thanks anyway!

also
by: Anneka

Also, smile!
*Do something you both enjoy
*Smother him in things he loves
*Have fun
*Spend time with each other
*Smile
*Think positive
*Be brave. It's not like you're going to fall off every time you ride him, is it?
And last, but not least.

Do. Not. Give. Up. :)

i know its so discouraging :(
by: pony lover

i know exactly how you feel. I really want to be a barrel racer and that same kind of thing happened to me. It's really hard to get over it which makes it twice as bad. But you just need to try to spend more time with tucker if you can. It's sad when things like that happen though:( so try getting a better bond with the horse. Just tell yourself over and over that you are the one that's in charge. Concentrate really hard when you ride. Learn to feel when the horse decides to do something bad. And watch his ears they can really tell you things. Talk to tucker tell him he's a good boy whatever you want to say. Don't get tense on tucker if you get tense he will to. Relax and it will go better. If you need more help post a comment and I will help you. Hope this advice helped you.

dont be afraid
by: Anonymous

i am not a horse expert or anything, but my advice is, don't be afraid. horses, like bees, can sense fear, and so that could be dangerous. also, if he stops after going around the corner, chances are the corner is too sharp of a turn for him. maybe you should try skipping the corner. the advice that i have overall is to ask your teacher. she probably keeps putting you on Tucker for a reason. If this is bothering you, i do not think she will mind if you ask her about it:)

hmm...
by: Anneka

I think I can help. I once had a confidence problem of constantly falling off Johnny (one of the cheekiest, craziest, yet amazing riding school ponies). But I had to do it the hard way and I had to keep riding Johnny. It worked out in the end, after a few bruises and grazes but I also ended up having a lot of fun once my confidence was back.
So, either ride a different school horse or go the other way, the way I did, ride with difficult horses until you're happy with each other.
Do things with him that he likes. Let's say he likes sporting, do that with him and HAVE FUN!!! Having fun will help!
Hang around him, tack him up and brush him. Watch him in the field and get to know how he works. Soon, you guys will be best buddies!!!

by: lucinda

wow this sound so similar to what happened to me once I was just causally trotting this pony work around (he had the bounciest trot EVER)and suddenly he went down and started trying to roll, I leap of onto the arena sand as he went over though it was hard as my feet were still in the stirrups for a while.

similar
by: lucinda

similar falls happen to me I get less confident sure but I know I have to get right back on the horse.
I think the reason they are putting you on Tucker so much is because(!) your scared to ride him that's what my instructor did. I didn't fall off but I was still scared to ride this one pony because she had a bouncy trot, but my riding instructor kept putting me on her and I felt way better riding her and she must think I did because now I own her! ah Bella.
