I've read a bunch of books in the Pony Pals series of books by Jeanne Betancourt. The main characters are Lulu, whose father is often off traipsing the globe to research and write about exotic animals; her friend Pam whose mom is a horse trainer; and Anna who is also horse crazy.
They have all kinds of adventures from getting their first ponies, to finding lost ponies and children, solving mysteries, and even the death of a beloved pony.
I really enjoyed these books. They are not difficult to read (probably a second or third grade reading level??); and they seem realistic about what goes into caring for ponies, and the challenges in owning them.
If you haven't given them a try, I'd recommend you start with the first book in the series -- I want a pony -- so you can follow the story along. If you have read Pony Pals books, let me know what you think!! Which is your favorite?
