Justice

Why didn't they believe me?

I would never steal a horse.

These questions were running through my mind as I picked up my phone, and the prosecuting attorney turned and yelled at me.

"Grace Brunner, where were you on the night of March 15th this year?"

"I was at the stable," I answered.

Because it was true. I had been. But not stealing the horse. I would never do that. They trusted me, we'd all grown up together, these lawyers and judges. I was barely 19. What would I ever do with somebody's $60,000 dollar purebred Arabian? These people trusted me. They knew I didn't do it.

Didn't they?
