My Mare <3
This is one of our lessons
My mare Shadow came to my barn as a school horse, but she was not what they thought she was. She was ten and not saddle broke. She was kind of but she wasn't properly. So I fought to buy her for two years, finally she became mine. I had my work cut out for me. This mare was a wild thing!
For the first year I worked with her on the ground. She didn't know how to lunge so I had no way of teaching her that way. I still remember the first time I rode her. She got the name as the bucker at the barn. But that didn't scare me, then.
We have gone through everything together. Now we can do anything together. She is an amazing horse and she inspired me for the rest of my life to rescue and retrain OTTB's just like her. I had hopes for Shadow, but now my pans are not going to happen because she has arthritis and she is going blind in her left eye. That just goes to show what happens when people don't take proper care of a horse when they are young.
I can still ride Shadow and I do everyday, I am never getting rid of her because to many people have given up on her before and I don't want to be another one of those people. I am starting to train another horse at my barn and Shadow is helping me every step of the way.
She went from unridable to a really good horse in four years. I still get bucked off by her and she still gives me really hard time sometimes but we get through it and Shadow finally found her home.
