"They weren't exactly singing my praises when I left home." (Jim, TREASURE PLANET)
This page was quite long in coming! I have been deciding how to write it, what to say about Quintro, and really, just deciding how to present it as an absolutely delightful realm. Here goes!
Quintro is my name for the Dimension of the Imagination, the more more complicated name of the place. Everyone has their own name for this dimension, and everyone also has a province (for which they have another name). One province can have butterflies, dolphins, and peaceful exotic islands, while the next province can be filled with grotesque creatures constantly battling (for the more violent provincial rulers, I suppose). Each province is endless in size, but also has its boundaries (rather like the imagination). Provincial rulers can "create" anything they wish in their provinces, such as certain residents or flora. However, if names are not given, whatever has been created will swiftly die. Names are essential in Quintro! Provincial names can be exchanged without fear of danger from any warlike rulers, but personal character names MUST NEVER be exchanged! Some name exchanges, such as between responsible friends, are allowable, but common exchanges are simply non-acceptable. Your personal name is your key to your province, and if anyone unworthy of ruling your province uses your key, your province is quite "doomed for destruction."
My province is absolutely marvelous (to me, anyway). Edravore (Ay'-drah-vor) has rolling green hills, perpendicular cliffs of yelva (yell'-vah;a hard, heavy white stone) or merva (mer'-vah;a naturally rough black stone), and thick forests with a variety of trees. Beautiful horses (mostly Arabians and Akhal Tekes, but also Thoroughbreds and Mustangs) roam free, some being domesticated for human use. I do have evil characters in my province, but the "good guys" soundly defeat the "bad guys" in any battles that occur. Other residents include friendly panthers and cheetahs, a large selection of colorful birds, several breeds of dogs, and a small number of "house cats." English is the official first language of Edravore, but Edri (Eh'-dree) is clearly preferred. People from Edravore are called Edrians, but belong in several different tribes. Some of them are Selvads, whose girls are always red-haired and whose boys are always blonde-haired. Kybe, born warriors, are black haired and have blue-grey eyes. There are other smaller tribes, but are so numerous that I do not plan to mention all of them!
Quintro is not happy and perfect, however. War-torn provinces are those belonging to careless rulers, who refuse to explore their provinces and name their creations. Some provinces, owned by people who do not use their imagination, are filled with a black fog that will eventually swallow those provinces and all in them. These areas are known collectively as the "Dead Realms," and are widely considered frightening and dangerous.
If most of you are like me, your provinces will have an enormous number of horses. But perhaps, just perhaps, you have not explored your province. Perhaps it has joined the Dead Realms. Perhaps it is filled with a black fog that is steadily eating it away and destroying everything within. Perhaps not, but perhaps. Quintro is calling. Will your province die? Or will you rescue all of your faithful subjects?
