Trail Rides Of -DOOM- (evreyone has them sometimes :)

by Maddy
(field of dreams equestrain center)

Trail Ride Of Doom is the name we gave all the worst trail rides, i have to say, i have had quite a few of these. here is one...

Ok, it started out on a normal day. my bff used to ride at the stables where i board my horse. But her horse died, and she got a new horse and moved up a new stable. We wanted to ride together again, so we set up a trail ride at our old barn. We were both going to ride some of the school horses (i didn't have my horse then, and she couldn't get hers up to the barn). We both knew the horses well, the one i was riding was the one who i learned to ride on, and my friend (hannah) was riding a horse named Donny (the horse i usually rode). it started out pretty normal, we were just trotting down the road, catching up on things. then it all went downhill (not literally).

My friend was riding in a western saddle, on that we call the saddle of DOOM. We call it that because somehow the girth comes undone (no matter how tight it is) in the middle of your ride, unless you get off and tighten it. ok, well i forgot to tell her to tighten it, and all of a sudden, she, and the saddle, were on the ground. she burst out laughing an so did i.

She tied her horse up to a tree on the side of the trail and started to put the saddle back on, so i went ahead a bit, then came back. on my way back i started to slip, then remembered i didn't tighten my girth. off i went.

When we where both back on, we decided to keep going, it was getting dark, and a big thunderstorm was coming, but we weren't really thinking. by the time we reached the end of the trail, it was thundering, and it was dusk.

Luckily it wasn't raining yet. We started back to the stable as fast as we could. we looked back about halfway home, and the rain was about 50 feet behind us, creeping up on us. we raced home just in time, and nobody was hurt....

yes, this was stupid of us, but don't even try to tell me you have never had a Trail Ride Of DOOM....

Not all Western saddles are like that
by: Anonymous

Not ALL western saddles are like that.. Lol. mine is just fine. My friend was on a trail ride once and she knew the girth was loose. But she rode anyways, too lazy to get off and fix it. Then they wanted to race and the saddle fell sideways while the horse was running and she went off and had to go to the hospital. She hasn't ridden since then.

OMG you and Hannah must have been scared with that thunder storm as horses and thunder storms dont mix very well. So do you have your own horse now? I might be getting one when i move. Yay ive always wanted one.

This is so funny...I haven't had a trail ride of doom yet. Guess that means mine is still coming. Lucky you got back OK!
