Prince and Baila

Prince and Baila

The rain fell softly to the ground. It hit the wood fence with a pat, pat. I sneaked to it, trying to be as quiet as a church mouse. The big arena lights shone through the dark cloudy night. The palomino Connemara cantered through the ring. Small hunter jumps were set up in a course. The rider nudged the pony on, and I watched in amazement.

The palomino jumped swiftly over the bush, and thundered through the oxford. The girl on the pony's back sat up straight and tall. She looked elegant and sophisticated. Her bright green jacket and black helmet made her look professional. The pony tossed his braided mane and kept going.

"C'mon, Prince! We can do this." The girl whispered in her pony's ear. The pony whinnied in response. They cantered gracefully over the jumps.

"Rosie!" A deep masculine voice yelled behind me, "Get down, now! I don't want you riding this pony!" The man basically ripped his daughter off Prince.

"No! Daddy! I love him!" The girl cried. I slid under the fence and caught the pony's reigns.

"Now, who are you?!" His tomato face bobbed as he spoke.

"Urm... I'm uh... Baila. I ride here. I don't own a pony though... I only take lessons..." My voice trailed off. Prince nudged his soft muzzle into my pocket. He fished out a mint and chewed on t softly.

"Well, whatever. Take him. We have no use for him."

"What?!" The other girl and I said together.

"N-no! Daddy no!" The girl bawled some more.

"Mr. Warburnt, I don't want to break your daughter's relationship with her horse-"

"Listen here kid," He cut me off, "We are moving tomorrow and I really need to get rid of this pony. Please, take him off our hands." He started to beg.

"Um... Can I call my mom first?" I ran into the tack room to use the phone. "Urm... Mom?... Yeah... Yeah... No, I'm having a wonderful time... Yes... Yes... Well, Mr. Warburnt is offering me a horse... No! Not for any money... Yes for free... You bought a house?!... WITH A STABLE?!... I can have the horse though, right?... Sweet! Thank you so much!... What?!... I have to clean my room?! Ugh... OK... Love you too... See you in a half hour... Bring the trailer!"

I hung up the phone, and danced back outside. Thankfully the rain had stopped.

"She said yes!"

Jesse and Polo

Jesse and Polo

"Everything just worked out too well..." I thought as we sped down the highway, the rusty trailer rattling behind us.

"Can't wait to get to the house, can ya, Baila?" My mother squeezed my arm. She smiled and said, "You're gonna love it! Ugh, this darned rain..." My mom flipped on the windshield wipers. The head lights flickered in the dark stormy night.

"Mom, where is this new "house"?" I asked as I gripped the handle on the door.

"Uh, I'm not sure but I know we won't get there too late. Oh no..." She looked ahead. The traffic backed up all the way to where our car had stopped. We were at the end of it. A huge fork of lightning crashed over head. Thunder rumbled and the traffic moved forward. Prince didn't seem affected by it.

Finally, we were unstuck. The cars sped away, and so did we.

The next morning...

I opened my eyes, to see my mom driving some more.

"Mom? Where are we?"

"Almost there." She muttered. Her knuckles were white as we sped down the slippery road. Finally, we turned onto a dirt pathway. We passed three barns, before turning right. As we rolled into the driveway of a beautiful barn and mansion, a bay stallion came bounding out no where.

"Billy!" My mom yelled. She stopped the car and jumped out. She grabbed the stallion's halter and led him back to the pasture. "Alright, Bails. Welcome home!" She unloaded all our suitcases. "I'll bring this up to the house. You unload Prince and get him settled." I nodded and led Prince to the barn.

"Welcome home Prince!" I exclaimed as we got to the last stall. As I was leaving his stall, other riders started to pour in. They looked as elegant as Rosie had the night before. I straitened my black jacket and breeches. Then dusted off my boots. "Hi! I'm Baila!" I greeted a girl wh looked very nice.

"Hey, I'm Mandi!" She laughed as she saw Prince stick his head out of his stall and sneeze very loudly. "Is he yours?" She asked with interest.

"Oh, yeah! I just got him last night. My family just moved here."

"Oh! You're the girl everyone's-"

"Out. Of. My. Way!" A nasally voice screeched behind us. I turned around and stared in awe when I saw her. The girl with the voice had beautifully wavy hair, a black shiny riding jacket, un-dusty boots and breeches. She flipped her hair and strode over.

"H-hi, I'm Mandi."

"Whatever, just stay out of Polo and I's way." She pushed Mandi away, and got all up in my face. "Just because your mother bought this place," She spat at me, "Doesn't mean you and your MULE own it." She whistled and three girls who looked slightly less -but not by much- beautiful then the girl.

"I'm Baila!" I said walking up to them. They giggled.

"Step off," The girl said, "We need breathing room." She turned to her friends and exclaimed, "Jeeze... Paparazzi these days!" They laughed their nasally laughs and went to their perfect ponies. "By the way, just so you know, I'm Jesse." She blew a glossy kiss, and walked off to her friends, and pony, Polo.

Green Pasture Riding Stables

Green Pasture Riding Stables

"Mandi, since you've been riding longer with Jesse then I have, can you tell me what's wrong with her?" I asked Mandi as I scrubbed Polo's bridle. Jesse had given us each 100 dollars to clean A. Clean her horse B. Clean her horse's stall and C. Clean her horse's tack. We hopped right to it!

"Weeeelll... Her dad used to own Green Pasture. Then you guyses bought it from him, and Jesse has talked bad about you and how you don't own a pony and because of that you shouldn't get to live here," She sighed, "But I told her that you seemed wonderful, and I couldn't wait to meet you!" She smiled at her own sentence.

"Um..." I bit my lip, and scrubbed harder. The messy bun that held my hair started to fall. "Here," I said handing the bright pink bridle to Mandi, "I'm gonna go check on Prince, fix my hair, and clean Polo."

"Wait! Wait! We have to do this togeth-" I slammed the tack room door at that point. I could hear Mandi angrily sighing. I drug my feet towards Prince's stall.

"Hi, Princey." I sighed. I took the grooming box down from the rafters and groomed my pony. Then I walked over to Polo and did the same. "Oh, Polo, you don't deserve Jesse. She pays people to take care of you... I would've given anything to have a pony a few days ago. I thought anyone who had a pony was lucky, and now look at me! Taking care of someone else's pony..." I muttered to Polo. He snorted and shook his head.

Mandi came whistling down the row of stalls. A small Shetland pony name Milky Way put his head over the stall door and snorted at her. He received a rub on the neck from her.

"I finished the tack!" She shouted. Polo spooked and knocked me into the wall.

"Woah! Woah! Calm down, Polo!" I calmed him.

"Polo better be tacked! I have a lesson in fifteen minutes!" A familiar voice yelled. Mandi and I raced to tack Polo up, and check to see if he was all set a pretty. "Perfect! Here you are." Jesse pulled out 200 dollars. She had 200 dollars in her pocket! She split it equally between Mandi and I.

"We're joining in your lesson Jesse." I sneered.

"What?!" She screeched. Mandi laughed as she tacked up Tonto. I led the already tacked up Prince out of his stall. I jumped onto his back, and with a click of my tongue, he trotted out of the barn.

"See you in the ring!" I winked when I said that.

"I am here to pick up my daughter, Rachel, and her friends." A proud woman in a lean emerald sun dress stated as she walked into the stable where we were brushing off Polo after our lesson.

"Um, Jesse and her friends left after their lesson. They're in the tack room right now..." Mandi said as she picked Polo's hooves.

"Oh, you girls must be the stable hands! Wow, my daughter's pony looks amazing!" She clapped her slender fingers together and walked away.

"Well that was weird..." I said as I combed Polo's mane. "Wow, Polo, you have beautiful hair!" I laughed. Mandi smiled but she looked spacey. "What's up?" I asked.

"Just... Thinking."She responded.

"About what?" I pushed.

"Just about... I don't know..." She sounded agitated.

"Pwease?" I made Bambi eyes at her.

"It's nothing, OK?!" She shouted. She stormed off to the tack room. When she came back she was surrounded by Jesse's clique. They pushed me, and Mandi blew me a glossy kiss. I looked puzzled.

"M-Ma-Mandi!" I shouted, "Wait!" I dashed forward toward her. She ripped her hand away as I grabbed it.

"EWWW! Mud!" She shrieked and howled. The group brushed her off and kept going, right into a limo.

"By the way," Mandi looked back, "Fox needs to be washed and groomed." She winked and ducked into the car. They drove away and left behind with five un-groomed ponies.

I stormed into the barn, only to find a very sad Jesse finishing grooming Polo.

"Jesse?" I asked as I grabbed a pick and picked the last hoof.

"Um, Baila, I'm sorry I was a jerk to you..." She sniffed.

"That's OK, Jesse," I said combing Polo's mane, "Hey, wanna sleepover tonight?"

"Yeah! Lemme ask my mom!" She ran into the tack room and ran back out in five minutes. "She said yes!" We screamed and jumped for joy. This was a start to a beautiful friendship...

Prince - Part 5

Dear Prince readers: I'm sorry but I'm putting this on hold. This story took me 1 hour to write. I have major writers block... I have another story I wanna write too. Please don't be mad at me. Thanks!
**************************************************

"So Jesse," I started, "What's it like... You know... Being popular?" I asked as I stuck small horse stickers on her nails.

"Um, Baila," She answered, "It's not all that glamorous. Here let me tell you..."

Jesse's Story...

"Baila, when I met Mandi, I thought she was really cool. I had never had a friend before that. After a while, I began to like other things than just horses. Like, for instance, being popular. I hung out with other people. That's when I met my ex-BFFs. We did EVERYTHING together.

"Mandi got really jealous. She kept inviting herself to our parties and sleepovers. I got annoyed, and we had a big fight. She made me her ex-best friend. We only saw each other at GPRS. She always glared at me. After we split, I sat in my room for five hours with our pictures together surrounding me, and I cried.

"After my clique formed, everyone loved us. We clawed our way to the top, and we were so mean. Mandi got even more jealous. She wouldn't even compliment me when Polo and I didn't get any faults in a show. I complimented her all the time, but she didn't care. Now look at us. She stole my friends, and left you. See? She's meaner than me..." Jesse cleared her throat.

"Wow..." I said. "She was so deep. Her story was so sad. Losing a best friend, gaining and losing popularity, no wonder she needs me." I thought.

"Now, let's do your nails!" Jesse exclaimed.

"Beep beep!" My alarm clock screamed.

"Oh, no! Six AM!" I jumped out of bed to land on Jesse.

"Ow!" She howled, "Careful where you land!" She rubbed her ankle.

"Today's the show! Get up! Get... Up!" I shook her with my big toe as I got my breeches on. I ran downstairs and got some toast. I shoved the whole thing into my mouth. Jesse stretched and brushed out her long blonde hair. She got up and put her clothes on in a nice and respectable way. I jammed my foot into the shiny black boot, and dashed out the door.

I ran to the stable through the pouring rain. I heard the screen door slam behind me. Jesse ran out too. She quickly reached the barn, and I ushered her in.

"Woah..."

Queen of Hearts (Heart)

The part everyone has been waiting for! Haha! This starts off from where I left off... (Also check out my blog at http://izzysteven.piczo.com/?cr=3
********************

I ran to the stable through the pouring rain. I heard the screen door slam behind me. Jesse ran out too. She quickly reached the barn, and I ushered her in.

"Woah..."

I gasped at what I saw. There standing in MY barn was Mr. Rilee Chipman. Theee Rilee Chipman. The famous jumper the world re-owned English jumper.

"Uh, hi there, ladies." He said with an English accent, "Is there a uh... uh... Baila around here?" He looked confused.

"Why yes, that would be me." I sorta posed when I said that.

"Oh, cool. Uh I'm Rilee and I need a barn to stable my horse. You know, Queen of Hearts?" I heard Jesse suck in a breath behind me. Queen of Hearts was a million even billion dollar mare by now. She was only 5 and had won over twenty competitions. When anyone besides Rilee walked up to her she freaked out because she had so much trust and love in him.

"Where is..." I gulped, "Queen of Hearts?"

"Over here." There she was in MY pasture. The proud cherry bay Arabian mare with a black mane and tail. Theee Queen of Hearts. Or just Heart. She nickered when Rilee walked up to her. I spotted Prince in the background sulking up to us. I wondered what his deal was.

"Oh, and this is my horse, Prince." I said as Prince reached us. He sighed and touched noses with Heart.

"He's down in the dumps... He doesn't like the rain." Rilee said as if he speaks horse, "Maybe bring him back to his stall?" I nodded and did so.

"Jesse, go get my mom." I shouted as I walked Prince back into the stables. He shuffled into his stall, and became more lively.

"What do you know..." I thought.

Prince - Part 6 - 2

by Izzy
(USA)

I could still hear the sound of pounding hooves, but it was distant. Every thing became vague around me as I jostled in the saddle. The triple loomed ahead, and suddenly we were on the ground. My life flashed before my eyes. A sharp pain shot throughout my head. I tasted blood.

"No!" I heard Jesse yell. I looked around and below me to see a palomino pony. He was laying down, and was struggling to get up. The vets and audience members all rushed down, too.

"Just stay where you are, ma'am, we'll take care of your pony." They lifted the pony up and whisked him away.

"No, wait..." I started but my voice trailed off as the rising water dunked me under. The last thing I heard was a voice that was like a girl I had once met.

"Prince!" The voice screamed.
***************************************

"Hey, how is he?" Jesse came walking up to Prince's stall.

"He's still a little jostled from the rain..." My voice trailed off. "I think he senses something bad's gonna happen... Ya know?" Jesse just nodded.

"Yeah... Uh, well, I'm going to practice if you wanna come. Or, not." She jumped on Polo's back and they trotted into the indoor arena. I locked Prince's stall, and walked to Heart's.

"Hi, girl." I said as I stroked her nose. She nickered and pushed my hand. She wasn't scared of me... I shrugged and got to chores. After I finished, I tacked up Prince and we trotted into the arena.

"Hey! You made it!" Jesse said as she flew over the triple.

"I sure did..." I concentrated on the vertical. Prince flew over it with ease. We approached the double and he had no problem with it. Then the triple was near. Prince laid his ears back. He shrieked and reared. I held on for dear life.

"Woah! Woah!" Jesse shrieked. She grabbed his reins and yanked on them. Prince settled and swung his head around toward me as if to say "Sorry..."

"No." I said as I pushed his head away.

"I think we should be done..." Jesse said. I nodded.

The next day...

"Hey, Baila, where is Heart?" Rilee asked.

"Lemme show you..." Jesse butted in front of me. "Lemme take this please?"

"Fine." I whispered. I didn't even like like him. "But don't forget! We have that competition later!" I shouted. I started to get Prince ready, and the trailer pulled up. I sighed and led Prince up to it. I was followed by Polo and Jesse.

"ARE... YOU... READY?!" Jesse screamed.

"Yepp..." I was so nervous.

Later...

"GO JESSE!" I screamed as she cantered around the ring. She cleared the triple with ease. I gulped as I thought about the practice earlier yesterday.

My turn...

"...And up next is Baila and Prince of Rock from Green Pasture Stables!" I heard the crowd cheer. I heard the timer buzz and we were off. I raced Prince toward the first vertical. We cleared it! I giggled as we flew over the double. Everything was perfect, that is, up to the triple.

I could still hear the sound of pounding hooves as we raced onward, but it was distant. Every thing became vague around me as I jostled in the saddle. The triple loomed ahead, and suddenly we were on the ground. My life flashed before my eyes. A sharp pain shot throughout my head. I tasted blood.

"No!" I heard Jesse yell. I looked around and below me to see Prince. He was laying down, and was struggling to get up. The vets and audience members all rushed down, along with the doctors.

"Just stay where you are, ma'am, we'll take care of your pony." They lifted the pony up and whisked him away.

"No, wait..." I started but my voice trailed off as the rising water dunked me under. The last thing I heard was a voice that was like a girl I had once met.

Prince - Part 7

by Izzy
(USA)

"Daddy, I saw him!" The girl shouted, "I saw Prince!" She danced through the apartment.

"Stop it!" Her mother ordered, "Rosie I don't want to hear any more nonsense about this Prince." She shook her head and continued the dishes.

"But mom..." Rosie whined.

"Nope, no whines. Now go wash up, we are going out to eat with our whole family."

Rosie grunted and stomped up to the bathroom.

"No stomping!" Her mother's voiced screeched over the intercom. Rosie stuck her tongue out at it, and continued to scrub under her nails.

"Stupid Baila... Taking my Prince..." She scrubbed faster and harder, "I know! I will go ask to buy him from her... She'll most definitely let me buy him back!" She poked the air with a perfectly manicured finger. "From this day forth, I'm going to try EVERYTHING to get him back!" She huffed a sigh and finished primping herself. She was finally going to be reunited with her best friend.
**********************************************************

"I still remember it..." I said to the psychiatrist, "The pounding of hooves, and the shriek of the pony... Then, it was quiet." I felt hot tears fall down my face.

"It's OK." His nasally voice reminded me of Jesse.

"...And I haven't ridden Prince in a year even though he didn't seriously injure himself." I cried.

"It's-"

"...And I've just been ignoring Jesse and my mom. I'm isolated in my room, and I haven't been down to the barn in weeks."

"Again, I-"

"You know what... I need to get back in the saddle... Thanks!" I shouted as I ran out.

I tacked up Prince when I got home. He whinnied excitedly when I got to him. We walked briskly around the indoor arena, before I set up a small obstacle. I grew nervous as I neared it, but Prince wasn't nervous at all. He was my trooper and no one could buy him off me for the whole world!
