Peppy

Peppy

This is Peppy who I have written about countless times. He is not my horse but he is the best horse ever :) Isn't he to die for? LOVE AT FIRST GLANCE!

Its been nearly a year and a half since the day I met my best friend, my soulmate, my lover, my encourager, my partner, my teammate. That day, April 2nd 2015 was the best day of my entire life.

Never would I have dreamed of loving a horse or a horse loving me as much as Peppy.

I remember when I first joined my horse club and the email said I would be riding a black and white american paint horse, I was not super excited. I had always dreamed of riding an elegant thoroughbred but the second I laid eyes on Peppy I was in love.

I remember so clearly as if it were yesterday, him standing by the pasture fence as we pulled into the driveway of the barn. He stood swishing his tail eating his grass. He had a stocky build, his coat was black and white, his mane hogged.

When I got out of the car, I remember him lifting his head to see who I was, then he went back to his grazing.

I rode him every time I possibly could and spent time with him as much as possible. I had known him about a year when I finally started riding lessons twice a month along with pony club events once a month.

At the time, Peppy and I didn't really have a bond. He knew who I was and he didn't dislike me but he didn't love me. I rode him in all of my lessons ad spent as much time bonding with him as I could.

And finally in June 2016 magic started happening. When I would walk into the barn or pasture he would prick his ears up and come towards me, a happy look in his eyes.

In July, he started listening so well to me and choosing me over food and over his actual owner.

When other people were around him and rode him, he acted like a devil but when I was near him I never saw so much love exhibited in an animal. He and I have come so far from posting trot to our first jump and cantering. He follows me to the barn without even a halter or treat and I can ride him without using my arms or using cues to get him to go. I can just tell him to do things and he does them.

Now everyone at the barn calls him my horse even though he isn't legally. I just want to thank him for these last 540 days.

THANK YOU PEPPY!

Peppy

Ebony blotches on a coat of white
Your eyes full of enthusiasm shining bright
You make everything in this world perfect for me
You show me how true love can be.

That first morning we met
Your spirit caught my eye
I still remember that sad moment of saying goodbye
The terrible feeling I felt as if I were going to die.

Now each lesson I see you my friend
I think back on the moments
My heart swelling with joy
You the best friend I could ask for my boy.

Now we've created a bond so strong
I've waited for this moment all to long
Our love makes us stronger day and night
In my heart your guardian angel.

The way you prick up your ears when you see me
Jump over anything with my gentle cluck
Stand by my side no matter what
Come to the fence when I call your name.

That First Morning (December 2016)

It started on a morning bright and clear
I remember you standing there a hint of spirit in your eyes
A charming look that caught my heart

It started with a lesson on tacking up
Then I mounted and learned a few things
You were an angel it seems

Months went by we became best friends
I learnt so much from cantering to my first jump
Our bond now so strong

Its been an amazing time
You have taught me more than I imagined
You are the angel God decided to send

Your heart is gold
and your love for me is true
your always there for me when I can't make it through

A little poem for my boy! I love him more than life! :)

I'm glad you got to go to the barn. Sometimes I just like to go hang out with Peppy and just hand graze him, braid his mane, groom him, and feed him treats. It's rare I get to but if he isn't being used I'm welcome any day any time :)

Heartbeat for horses
by: Haddie

No riding lately but I got to visit my favorite horse stable! I can't ride there because it's too far away but I love visiting sometimes. My favorite horse from there is a sweet and lovely gray Quarter Horse, Gracie. :)

I saw your post on the horse questions page. Sorry about that. I'd say ask a trainer or someone about finding a horse that she could actually have a good relationship with.

If Peppy's scared of her that's not going to go well for anyone. Also, be kind to her... maybe she's hurting, lonely, or just shy and that's coming across as snobbishness. Hope that helps!

Haddie, I kind of like stubborn horses... but only to a point. Also, Blue was a bit stubborn... she just kept going!

Heartbeat for horses, how often do you see Peppy? :)

Hey Haddie! My lesson was awesome! Right now, I'm working on the canter of the lunge line.

My trainer said me and Peppy work so well together and have such a good bond. She said I could keep riding him. She let me take him out on the trail alone!

Also, I got to ride bareback for a few minutes!

I can't wait until Wednesday for my next lesson! I take them every other week. Anyway, have you ridden lately? Also read my poem about Peppy up above please!

Hi!
by: Haddie

Heartbeat for horses, how was your lesson? And that is so cool that you and Peppy were born on the same day!

Horselovinggirl, Blue sounds fun! Most of the horses I've ridden have been lazy, so a faster one would be nice for a change. As long as it's not stubborn like the last fast horse I rode. That mare was difficult!

Haddie:
Yes, I did have a favorite horse! Her name was Blue and she is a blue roan Quarter Horse!

Although she is pretty old (28), she is the fastest out all the horses there! I do hope to ride more often. (Well, doesn't every horse-crazy girl want to?) But God has given me some opportunities to ride horses at least once a year and I'm glad!!

Heartbeat for horses:
Wow! He is the same age AND has the same birthday! You guys are meant to be!! ;)

I have a riding lesson Wednesday! I'm so excited to see Peppy. I miss him so much! I haven't seen him in 2 weeks though it seems like its been a year.

I like the way you said that Haddie, God's in control. It's so true. I'm sure God has a plan. No matter what, you'll see him again. You'll ride everyday, you'll have the strongest bond, and you will be together for eternity. That's what I always think when I'm not with Peppy.

One day I'm going to be with Peppy every single day, every second.

Thanks. I know God's in control wherever he is, plus it's not like I don't love any of the other horses I've gotten to ride and be around. I hope you have a great next ride with Peppy;)

HorseLovingGirl, congrats on riding off lead line! Your camp sounds like so much fun... did you have a favorite horse? Hope you get to ride more soon.

Oh I'm sorry
by: Heartbeat for horses

I'm so sorry Haddie! I've lost Peppy in nightmares... it was terrible. I wish I could see him more....

I had a dream last night that I went to the barn for a lesson and another girl was jumping him in the arena. I asked my trainer who she was. She looked at me and said she is trying Peppy out. She might buy him.

Then a couple weeks later, I come for my next lesson and I walk over to Peppy's stall but he wasn't there. I looked in all the pastures and paddocks even the neighbors paddock but he's nowhere. So I asked my trainer and she told me he was sold a week earlier.

I couldn't sleep for the rest of the night once I woke up. It's heartbreaking in dreams, I can't imagine how it would be in real life.

Good luck on riding more!

I don't ride very often either. :( But whenever I have the chance to, I do! I was just at horse camp and that is when I first rode a horse on my own (no one leading the horse around)

And Heartbeat for horses, how old is Peppy? He looks young! ;) (But adorable)

I wish...
by: Haddie

No, I don't own a horse and can't ride regularly, but I have ridden some and love it whenever I can :) My favorite horse, Leo, was sold not long after I had my first riding lesson on him and I don't know where he is now. So if you ever come across a super sweet 16.1 hand, born 2001 or 2002, chestnut Holsteiner gelding with a blaze (registered as Patron) please let me know!

Awesome news!
by: Haddie

Thanks for sharing, HorseLovingGirl, I so agree!

I'd add that the only way to go to Heaven through Jesus is to know that every single person has a huge problem -- we've broken God's law and haven't honored Him as God. But then, to humbly tell God you're sorry, that He is truly the almighty and holy God, and to believe that John 3:16 is true: "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son (Jesus, who lived perfectly instead of us, died instead of us, and came back to life!) so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. (in Heaven!)" It's such amazing news that God loves us sinners that much and I'm so glad to get to share it with you girls - I'm praying for all of you!

(Oh, and please comment here or on the horse pic I hope to post soon if you have questions about this... I'd love to chat!)

Well...
by: AHorseLovingGirl4ever

I like your poem! And 1 more thing. If you horse girls ever want to see your horse again (like if you had to sell him or her...etc...), there is only 1 way to do that: Heaven. BUT! There is only 1 way to Heaven. You ask, what is that one way? Here is your answer!: JESUS! Here are His own words!:
"I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through Me." And coming to the Father means coming to Heaven! Father means God in this. Jesus is the Son of God. So first you have to go through Jesus!!! :)

I love you (a poem)
by: Heartbeat for horses

This is for all the girls and boys who have lost an equine companion, don't see them often or who have to sell them. I hope this comforts you in those long days of sadness and sorrow.

Just think, one day you're going to see them again. You will throw your arms around their soft neck, run your fingers through their silky mane and tell them how much you love them.

You will ride forever, never to stop, you will never leave each others' side. As you go up to heaven, God will be waiting for his two special angels.

I love you

The pain digs deeper everyday
It hurts to the point I can scarcely stay
I miss you deeply hour by hour, day by day

Even though you have not gone away forever
Someday we will be together
Side by side to savor

I don't know why it hurts so much
But I love you deeply
I can tell you that much

I stare at your photo hours a day
Thinking of our fun times galloping away
The words, you have to stay, run through my mind today

I imagine us galloping once again
Cantering and jumping together
But all to soon it all fades away

I'll see you someday
And we will gallop again
But this time it isn't a dream and it won't fade away.

Riding lessons with Peppy (blog #1)
by: heartbeat for horses

I got to the barn I ride at about 9:50 A.M. I had ten minutes before the lesson started so I went to the paddock beside the barn to see Peppy my very best friend.

"Hey boy!" I call and hurry over to the fence where he stands gazing at me with a look of happiness in his eyes. I throw my arms around his neck. "I missed you Peppy love!" I say and kiss his velvety muzzle. I extend my hand which held peppermint (his favorite treat ever) and he gobbles it down happily.

I begin to tell Peppy about the long boring two weeks without him, the party I went to Friday night, when my friend came over, and when I went to the beach for the weekend. Soon, the time had flown by and my riding instructor told me to go ahead and get Peppy ready for the lesson. I grabbed his halter and led him into the barn to groom him and tack him up. I put him on the cross-ties and grab his grooming kit.

I quickly groom him with the curry comb, hard brush, soft brush, mane and tail comb, and hoof pick. I then go into the tack room and get his saddle pad, saddle, and girth. I go back and put his saddle on him then tighten the girth. Then I get the bridle put it on him and then grab my helmet. I follow my instructor to the arena with Peppy.

When we get to the arena, I lengthen my stirrups, tighten my girth and mount up. I start at the walk to warm him up then after about 5 laps I ask him for the trot. Today, I'm working on the posting trot. I steadily rise up and down in the saddle with the rhythm of Peppy's trot of 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2.

After a few laps, my trainer has me go over a few ground poles at the trot then after a hour of riding,we rap it up. I dismount, shorten my stirrups and lead Peppy up to the barn. I slowly untack him in hope to spend a few more minutes with him. I take his tack into the tack room rinse off the bit then go back to Peppy. I wash him off in the wash stall then slowly run the sweat scraper of his dripping coat, while I talk to him about more things of my life when I'm not with him.

I finish up, clip on his lead rope and lead him to the pasture behind the house. I remove the halter feed him a small piece of carrot kiss him say goodbye and soberly turn and walk towards the gait. With one final wave, I go back to the car and go back home to wait another dull two weeks without him.

P.S. Hey girls! This is a true story of my last lesson and I will be doing one every time I have a riding lesson. Keep looking forward to the next one!
