Pearl: Horse of the Land and Sea - Part 1

by Breanna
(AZ)

Long ago, before the people came to live on Earth, there was a wild herd of horses. They were a group of normal horses with normal colors. There was a fierce stallion who ruled the land that his mares and he lived on.

Then, one day, when the herd was exploring, they came across the sea. They smelled the salty grass, tasted it, and were so moved by how wonderful it tasted that they encouraged the stallion to try it, who only ate the grass he was familiar with. So he let his mares eat the grass for a few more hours before he said it was time to go. But the mares said that they weren't going, that they were going to stay at this new place with a blue substance that they could float and swim in. This substance wasn't the lake that they drank from.

It was salty, like the grass, but too salty to drink. But they had found a lake to drink from. The mares wanted to stay with this delicious grass that made them feel full o energy. They wouldn't go unless the stallion tried it. So, reluctantly, the stallion tried the grass. To his amusement, he rather enjoyed eating it. So he expanded his kingdom so that it included this new place.

After they had been living there for a few months, one day, a mare wandered over to the edge of the shore to look out at the water. The water had started to get gray. Then it started to ripple. There was a pink and gray object coming towards the mare. She got scared and called for the stallion, but the ripple was so loud that her could not hear her.

Also the repeated munching of his jaws blurred his vision from anything else but his beloved grass. So the mare was left on her own to fend for herself. After a few long minutes. Th object appeared and some long gray things with oddly shaped tails emerged, pulling a large, wrinkled gray cart-like thing. It opened and the mare was overwhelmed by a pink light.

After she got accustomed to the light, she looked back and saw the most beautiful stallion. He was of a different color, not dun, not chestnut, but also not white. He was of a cream color. He spoke, saying, "I am the king of the sea horses. We look just like you, but we can breathe underwater and we all come in this color. Why have you taken over my land?" The mare said," We did not know that you also lived here. We only stayed because we have enjoyed this marvelous salt grass. Please, don't hurt us. We cause you know harm because we cannot go underwater, where you live. Please let us live here."

The stallion thought about what the mare had said and then, it hit him. He told the mare," I will not hurt the herd if you come to live with us. I can make you be able to breathe underwater. We need different colored horses. Besides, you do not fit in with your herd." It was true.

The herd consisted of duns, blacks, and chestnuts. She was a strawberry roan. She said," Fine, I will come with you, but you must promise me something in return." The stallion said," What is your desire?" "To be able to visit my true family for one month every year so they can see my foal of that year and I can catch up with my family." " Very well. " the stallion said.

The Next Year

The mares of the herd on land were still wondering where the mare of a different color had gone. Suddenly, they heard a whinny like they had never heard before. They turned around and a beautiful cream horse was coming towards them. But the horse wasn't all cream. Ti had a tint of pink and brown. But it was the shape of the horse that they all recognized. It was the mare coming back to them. Thy ran to her and bombarded her with questions of all sorts. Why was she a different color? Where had she been? Had she run away?

The mare said that she couldn't say where she had gone and that she only was going to be with her family for a month. The next day, one of the mares saw the mare going out to the forest nearby. When she hadn't returned in a few hours, the stallion sent out a few of his best mares to look for her. they later returned with a brand new foal by her side. The foal was Pearl.

I really love your story! Me and my friend have made up a story about horses with elements and it's really cool. Don't you think it would be fun to write a story like this but different? Like Cloud: Horse of the sky? Maybe we could create a series like this(I know i'm a total stranger though). Do you have an account on howrse? If you have one or make one we can talk about it? My isername on howrse is star3000.

Such a great story! I can't wait to see what Pearl would be like - not quite a sea horse or a land horse, but both. Very interesting. Please write on.

Pearl, Horse of the Land and Sea - Part 2

by Breanna
(AZ)

The stallion was furious that his mare had gone off and had a foal with another stallion. He banned her from coming to visit ever again. But the mare said," You have no control over me anymore since I am no longer your mare. I belong to the stallion Cream, stallion of the underwater horses."

The stallion was shocked by this outburst. He was about to scream at her for defying his order when the clouds started to get gray, the water started to ripple. None of the horses could hear each other.

Just then, a huge object being drug by strange, gray creatures. But the herd wasn't afraid of the creatures. They were afraid of the large object they were pulling. The object was opening. After it had opened all of the way, there stood a horse of a different color.

The mare said," This is my new stallion, the father of my foal, and the ruler of the sea AND this beach. He hasn't harmed you because I chose to go with him. Because of my sacrifice, you all are still alive. After living with them for a year, I saw how good their army is and I was glad of my choice. I must go now. My month is over. Pearl, come here. PEARL!!!!!!"

All this time, Pearl had been making new friends. She was frolicking with the bays and chestnuts.

"BUT MOM, I don't wanna leave."

"I'm sorry, sweetie, but we have to go with him. You and I belong to him."

"But will I be able to breathe down there?" "Yes sweetie, because you have both land and sea blood, you can breathe all day up here and all day down there. You are very powerful with your ability. Now, we have to go because Cream's running out of his air. Goodbye, everyone. See you next year!" And with that, she and Pearl climbed into the cart and disappeared.

UNDERWATER

"Who was that, that was about to yell at you?" said Cream. The mare said that it had been her former stallion.

The stallion shrugged and looked at Pearl and said, "Hello. It is nice to finally meet you, Pearl."

"Hi, Dad."

Pearl: Horse of the Land and Sea Part 3

by Breanna
(AZ)

"Mommy, why did we visit them if this horse is my father?" asked Pearl.

"Because, I was not born into this herd, I was once one of them. But I had to come with him because he was going to fight with them. But now I am much happier." said the mare.

So Pearl said, "How are you happier?"

"The horses treat me right, and I have you now. Remember, if I hadn't changed herds, you wouldn't be here. Your father gave you to me." The mare replied. "Now this is going to be a long trip, three months, in fact, but if you're a good girl, then I will let you go out and meet some new friends as soon as we get home, okay?"

"OK, mom." They rode in silence for a few minutes before the stallion turned to Pearl and said, "You look like a fine little filly. You will be well liked I'm sure of it." But, three months later, when the carriage came to a stop and mother, father, and baby got out, they all gasped in shock.

Cream's beautiful castle was being destroyed by horses that they did not recognize. They were of the same color, but they had scars all over them. It took Cream a minute, but when he realized who they were, his face drained of all color.

He leaned over and whispered into the mare's ear, "Its my brother's herd, the Underwater War Horses. They have hated me and my herd ever since I expelled my brother, Storm, because he was being violent with some of my foals."

The mare gasped and said," We should evacuate the mares and foals as soon as possible, right?" "Yes, because otherwise, Storm will try and destroy them just to get back at me."

"ACTUALLY, IT'S NOT JUST TO GET BACK AT YOU!!!! IT'S TO TAKE OVER THE ENTIRE KINGDOM!!!!!!!" Cream, the mare, Strawberry was her name, and Pearl looked to the side and there was Storm. He would have looked exactly like his brother except for the numerous, white scars that covered his head and body.

Strawberry took Pearl and started to run away from the two brothers, but Storm saw them trying to escape and whinnied for two of his best war horses to go and catch them.

Strawberry overheard him and told Pearl, "I know I should have told you this before, but you have magical powers since you are a horse of two different kinds. I believe it is your destiny to try and defeat Storm. You can go into the future and turn into how old of a horse you want to be. For now, I would go with 3 years old so you at least have some sort of chance at beating him. Oh, and if you think really hard, you can add war experience. Please, add that." said the mare.

Pearl looked at her mother, a look of shock on her face. She said," Well that makes sense since when I sleep, I see visions that include me that have come true, like us leaving, the castle being destroyed, but nothing on me beating anyone. Bu, then again, the visions haven't gone that far yet. So I'll try."

And with that she closed her eyes and emptied her mind and said "Make me 3 years old with much war experience!" The last thing she heard before she blacked out was her mother's voice saying "I love you, Pearl".

****************

What happens next: is it
A. Pearl wakes up and sees that her power has backfired and she is the same
OR
B. She wakes up to see that her power worked but it took to long to work and Storm has already taken over the kingdom and killed her mother and father

Pearl: Horse of the Land and Sea - Part 4

by Breanna
(Waddell, AZ)

Sorry everybody, I'm switching to first person. I'm Pearl.

"Everything's black..........Why is everything black? I hope I'm not too late. Wait a minute, whats happening? My legs are going numb; no my whole body is going numb. What's happening to me?!" Then, I wake up.

As soon as I open my eyes, the tears come. My soon-to-be new home was destroyed. There were horses laying dead or dying everywhere. I try and stand up, but my legs are longer, my head feels much heavier. Yes, it worked, but it was too late.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see my mother's tail laying on the ground behind a coral bush. But, that's not possible because her head was over here. Then I realize that my mother had been torn apart by something that was not horse; it was something much worse. I go and lay over by my mothers desiccated body and start to mourn her. Then, I hear it.

But its not possible because everybody's dead. But no, I hear my father's whinny, as faint as it was, but I heard it. I walk over to a section of the castle and I see him. He had the same bite marks all over him but he was still whole.

He looks at me and says, "Pearl, you have to leave this place. My brother's herd has come up with a way to make a creature so terrible that they only bring it out for war or to destroy something. As special as you are, you can't do anything about it. Leave this place and never return. Remember me and your mother." He sighs heavily, and with his dying breath, he says, faintly, "Go to your mother's old herd and beg him to take you in. Don't forget your mother or I." And with that said, he laid down his head, and died. I take a heavy sigh and throw up my head and I start to mourn.

With heavy tears streaming down my face, although its against my father's orders, I shout, "I will revenge your death, Mom!!! Don't you worry!" Then, I go and examine my mother's body, leaving my dad only to live in my memories.

She had several bite marks on her body that were not part of the rip. They had 7 teeth marks on top and 8 on the bottom and they looked like they had been razor sharp. Dad was right, this was something I should not mess with.

So, as much as I didn't want to, I decided to listen to my dad's warning and go live with my mother's old herd. But how do I get there. Suddenly, there is excruciating pain in my lower back left leg. I look back and see that a shark has bitten my leg.

I take my other leg and crush to mouth of the animal, breaking its jaw and cursing it to a life to be lived not much longer. The salt water soon clots the wound and the pain decreases. I swim to the surface and look around for the island that was my birthplace.

Fortunately, it was less that 1 mile from where I was. I started swimming and soon I came upon the island. The herd was at the edge of water as I swam up.I walk up onto the beach and looks of shock crossed everyone's faces. I said, "Hi, everybody. It's me, Pearl." Then, everybody recognizes me. A new stallion came up and introduced himself.

"My name is Lightning. This herd made me top stallion because they sent the first stallion away from here because of what he said to your mother. Do you wish to return to your mother and your birthplace?"

I nod.
