Teaching Your Horse To Wear A Halter
by: Anonymous

You should get your horse use to you rubbing him/her all over and spend a lot of time with them so they get use to you and begin to build a trust relationship. Them bring a SMALL brush into the field with you and get him/her use to you rubbing that all over him/her then introduce a rubber curry etc. When you finally start to work on getting him/her use to a halter, first bring a very lightweight lead rope and get him/her use to you rubbing that all over them. Then, the next time you can see if you can get it around his/her neck by reaching under with one hand holding the lead and bringing it over the neck to your other waiting hand. Then you have some control over your horse. Always talk softly and give lots of rubs in itchy areas. Never push your horse farther than what they are ready for. Take your time and don't stress about it. Good luck!

ok summer
by: pippi tranner!!!!!!

ok summer that is what you do when you have a scared horses so the know it is not scary!!!

but you mit have the halter ever time you go out their about if your horse comes close to you and the halter you give him or her the oats you have in your pocket and that she will will not be scared of it and when you can approach her without her getting upset you may start doing what you are you doing but ever time you feel you horse not react you stop and have a brake until you horse has calmed down and go back to work after you have done this without upsetting your horse you get a grain bucket and put thier norse loop around the opening of the grain bucket and when your horse comes to eat the grain you slip the loop on the nose of the horse and buckle it quickly and get away!!!!!!

anther way is to may tran uor horse is to make small loop at the end of a rop and put the the rop around the horse's neck and feed the other and of the rop though the loop and than put the end of the rop around the horses neck a and thought the loop and than to the horse's the nosie and I hop you canifger itout from there. gooood-luuuuck!!!!!!!!

Hi Chloe
by: SUMMER

Okay, I'm no horse expert but I've got a few tips.
Firstly, I strongly reccomend that you do not scare your horse by rubbing the halter on her. What you should do is hang it by her haynet or leave it by her food bowl- in this way she can't avoid it. If she doesn't mind it then you should go to the next step. Slip the halter through your arm and hold a treat in your hand. If your horse eats the treat even though the halter is there, then pat and praise her. If she doesn't then you'll have to go on doing this with tasty treats. The next step is to now hold the halter in your hand and feed her the treat. Her mouth will be touching the halter and in this way she'll get used to touching it (all this will take a while but you gotta be patient). Remember to make a gret fuss of her if she does what you want. From here you'll have to slowly bring the halter closer to her body(maybe pat her with it in your hand). If she's still terrified, don't go forward but carry on giving her treats with the halter in your hand. But if she does start getting used to it then you'll have to give her tons of hugs and kisses to show her that she's good. Once she allows you to stroke her with the halter then try leaving it on her neck or back. Again, if she's good, praise her but if she's not then go on trying to get her used to it and be gentle with her.Soon she'll be wearing the halter!
Please let me know if you are having any progress. Love ya-SUMMER

Suggestion
by: Windcall

Hey, I DO NOT have a horse, so I DO NOT have the problems that I have been reading about on this page! Yet I do have a suggestion, however silly it may be! I would let the horse sniff the halter, and maybe even play with it a little bit, and see that it is not something to be "scared to death" of. Another thing would be to take it slowly, perhaps rubbing the halter close to her face and slipping just the ear "spot" around her ears, getting her used to "that terrifying object." Hope it works!

JESUSLUVSU!

P. S. If my suggestions work, PLEASE let me know! And give your horse a hug or treat for me!

hey
by: HorseLover490

i almost had the same thing happen to me but instead of getting run over i just got bit HARD! and knocked to the ground and i hit my head off something hard. anyway what i did was hang the halter inside the stall so the horse gets used to it. and everyday or close to everyday show the horse that it won't hurt you. when your horse looks relaxed and this took me a few days just to get my mare relaxed, try and slip the halter on. even if you don't get it all the way on still reward your horse. in about a week or two i got her pretty much broke.

I hope this helps!
