Don't give up!

by Anonymous
(Illinois, USA)

When I first started riding, my only dream was to be in a horse show. Little did I know that when you are only eight, your nerves can REALLY get to you.

I trained on a little chestnut pony named Obi, who was one of my favorite ponies ever. When the time came I was at the gate at my first away show. I walked in shaking from head to toe... and Obi felt it too. I cantered up to the first "x" and prepared to jump, but Obi had better ideas... he circled around and refused. I was embarrassed and annoyed as I turned him at it again, but no luck.

Finally, on the third try I got him over and carried on. The rest of my course was perfect! I didn't place, but I learned to never give up... even when your pony is acting like a jerk. :)
