Calm sensible gelding? More like a wild mentle case.

This is Archie (Does he look like a Quarter Horse?)

---TRUE STORY---

I got my gelding, Archie, March of 2007. The owners told me he was a calm sensible quarter horse. I rode him around and he seemed fine, calm. We took him to our place a week or so later. I waited 4 days before riding him, just to get to know him. He was extremely laid back and calm. I rode him a few times and he was fine. About the 5th time I rode him, I got him tacked up and started riding him. I warmed him up at a walk and trot for 10 minutes and he was doing great. (Now, I have rode horses for almost 5 years now, and I have never fallen off, till I met the one gelding who caught me off guard.) I asked him to lope, him being trained in western, and he did as I told him with little backtalk. I never ride with a helmet at home, only at places where it's required. I made two circles in the pasture. I start to do the 3rd circle and he bucks, throwing the saddle up. (I have a very cheap saddle that doesn't stay on his back very well.) I stay on and hit him in the neck, pulling him to a walk. I walked him around for a bit then ask him to lope again, he does the same, except this time, much harder and turning when he does. I go flying into a nearby thorn bush and hit my head on a tree. Archie went galloping off and my friends had to go catch him. I was fine and I got up and brushed myself off. Archie got put back in the barn, me having a major headache. I can never stay mad at a horse. It's my weakness. So he gets away with it that time, and the time after that, till the 3rd time. My friend, Ryan, was riding him. He asked if he could lope, him being an experienced horse rider, I warned him, but said sure at your own risk. He nodded and asked Archie to run. Archie did fine, til he was asked to go faster. Archie bucked, but didn't get him off. So he decides to roll on him. Archie goes down to the ground and starts to roll. Archie gets up and starts galloping right torwards me, I lunge out to grab his bridle, but I miss and he gets out of the gate, heading back to the barn. I ask Ryan if he's ok and he gets up, but is Archie. I start running after Archie, who has gotten caught in the barn. He gets his butt kicked for bucking and put back in the barn. Ryan said he was fine, but we found out his leg was still hurting a few days later and he went to the hospital to find out it had a small fracture.

I know exactly whats wrong!!!!!!!!!

Your gelding could have hurt its back and may need a vet out.try and ask for a lope with a nice calm voice.Do you feel nervous when asking for a lope? If you do you could be passing your nerves onto your pony who then starts to buck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bucking
by: Anonymous

your horse could be bucking because the saddle hurts him. I had a little red mare I was riding in barrels. I had never rode barrels before and my Mom and Dad got me a cheap barrel saddle. My mare was ok at a walk or a trot but at a canter or gallop she bucked like crazy! I tried to find out why she was bucking ( she was a very calm mare ) I went to alot of people and they said the saddle didn't fit. I got a new sadle that did fit and the bucking stopped. the old saddle was clamped down in the front and popped up in the back. She wasnt trying to be mean it just hurt. I hope this helps:)

Horses are like humans, Sometimes they do not feel comfortable somewhere, OR doing something. You have to keep that in mind, Especially if you are nervous because the nerves piratically get transmitted into the horse as well. Are you OK though? Your lucky to have your own horse :( I want one! GL in training him into doing the lope if you can!!!
