A Horse to Call My Own
(Roblin, Manitoba, Canada)
Ever since I don't know when, I have wanted a horse. I still don't have one, but I love making up stories! This all really happened except for the part that tells when I got my horse, which won't appear until you tell me you want it!
I stare at my sister. She is riding my grandma's horse, the headstrong horse nobody has ridden for 3 years! I can't believe it. I'm so jealous as I hear my grandma say to my sister, "He is your horse now." My sister owns a horse. All the way home from grandpa's I think about it.
The next day I receive a phone call from my cousin Kaylee. She asks me if I would like to ride horse with her and her brother, Tyler.
"Why of course!" I tell Kaylee. "I'll be right over!"
Half an hour later we have our horses saddled and ready to go. Tyler is on Sisco (my favorite), Kaylee is on Legs and I'm on Windsong, a horse Tyler is training for this lady.
We head west for the valley. There is a trail beside the train tracks there that goes to the valley. We head down it.
Tyler, in the lead, rides up to the train tracks. I can feel Windsong is a bit nervous. Atop the tracks, she launches into a buck. I hold on desperately, feeling her twist under me. I stay on. Tyler tells Kaylee to give me Legs and ride Windsong herself.
Thinking back, I know I should have stuck to her, but I mounted the gentle Legs.Tell me if you'd like part 2!
